I can't quote the source, but here's a link to a Dancetech thread which seems to quote a press release. Focusrite's site is down at the time of this post.
Price seems to be too good to be true yes, knowing a stereo Sintefex compressor alone costs like 2000euro or so. And even then, when we compared the Liquid's compressor section to their real counterparts at Lindell's place, we were far from impressed with the Liquid demo unit.
sorry guys... it's 100% real - but we had to take it down until 29th march (there was a tiny editors note in the PR saying it couldnt be published until that date... er... which we and may other apparently missed.
Whoa...It looks like Uad & Powercore has some stiff competition. If the price is correct, than I probably buy, or atleast seriously look into it. D@mn, now I gotta try a Liquid Channel or start reading some reading some threads, inorder for me to know what to expect with this unit...
If this is true, I'm also going to buy one plus some extra DSPs for higher sample rates. gosh 500Β£ for such a product is a bargain, even if you, like me, love & still use analogue hardware.
Firewire... Mmm, wonder about latency and sharing the bus with interface and drive.
I hope UA answers this with a Gigabit ethernet UAD-2, a la Waves APA external box.
All new intel Macs and most pc's now use Gigabit ethernet.
RTAS format is great, no need to wrap (and lose AS in the process) the plugs with Fxpansion's but for LE/MP users without delay comp, how will this Focusrite box be manageable? We'll soon find out...

If it runs 32 channels with no drain on the CPU then you know... throw an instance of the plug in on every channel even if you're not using it?
Seems like a good concept. I too am not crazy about firewire, but if it works, it'll be a DSP saver for sure. Let's hope it sounds good and doesn't cost too much.
funny, I emailed focusrite last century offering to help them make a similar unit, before the liquid channel, I wanted a non disclosure agreement they couldn't get their head round so I dropped it, seems like they came up with the concept by themselves after all, albeit 7 years later..
actually this is alot cooler than what I invisaged but still, I was definitely ahead of the times
Ok... So I've had a day to calm down. I've been reading a LOT of bad words on the Liquid Channel. If the original is medeocre.. Do I want to actually get one of these things? Do I need DSP Compression and EQ on all my tracks? I do get excited by the thought of being able to but.. practicallity interrupts me sometimes. Theres awesome sounding native solutions. Not to be a downer but this seems like probably just focusrite's way of making the LC worth the reserch and development.
There is bad press in relation to comparisons of the liquid channel and the primo analog gear it's supposed to emulate. Every single plug-in ever made gets that bad press.
But there has to be a reason they cant keep those liquid channels in stock. those things been flying off the shelves.
If it plays nice with my UAD-1's and Fireface....I'll get one. Its still cheaper than the new Waves SSL plugins, and URS, plus you get a nifty controller, and its portable

if its based on the sintefex algorithms (which I think it is) then its the same sounds that get used (or have been used) at abbey road mastering, if memory serves me right they used them for mastering the lord of the rings trilogy.
At the price I don't think you could go wrong, although like i said, in a few years you could do it all natively
Yuck. This thing is going to be a nightmare for PCs (it's obviously built for macs.) Your video card is gonna LOVE THIS THING. I can hear my IRQs screaming all ready. Took MANY a tweak to just get the 002 to run on PC. I hate the DIGI 002 because it's firewire. Soooo weak. My RME 9652 was infinitely more stable. Too bad I love Pro Tools.
If this thing is ANYTHING like the Liquid Channel, it'll be pure crap. "Any compressor or EQ in history?" Sounds pretty familiar. Come on, people, wake up.
Why do I need their cruddy DSP when I can run 5 (better) EQs and compressors on every track as it is on my native system (with CPU usage up to around 30%?) I don't think focusrite got the memo. DSP is dead.
IT LOOKS REALLY COOL, THO!! SO NICE AND SHINY!! SHINY SHINY SHINY!!!
dfegad
P.S. If Liquid Channels are "flying off the shelves," it must be the Ghost of Recording Engineers Past throwing them to the floor in disgust.
