any and all firewire products have worked on PC's for a few years now. I never had to do anything more than plug the firewire soundcard, hard drive, & digi002 in without a problem on my pcs or macs. never did anythign special on pc to get em to work
my video cards run on AGP and pci-e. not sure how firewire would affect that.
cant pass this up for $700. cant sound no worse than any of the other plugins that get blasted everyday. an alternative to uad-1/powercore/ap44
I think you misunderstood me a little. I'm not saying they're building it JUST for Macs (obviously they're not, since they have a release date for PC.) It is ORIGINALLY DESIGNED to run on Macs, then "ported over" to PC. Like Digi. And Quicktime. And iTunes. That's why these things run LIKE SH*T on PCs. I use a Quicktime alternative, and would never install QT or iTunes on my PC. Those things are almost as bad as a straight up virus, in my opinion.
If you've never had problems with an 002 and your PC, you got LUCKY (or you paid too much for a pre-built machine.) Try running 3 UAD-1 cards and an external harddrive while using it. It's nearly impossible. And if the external harddrive is firewire, forgetaboutit! Conflicts, conflicts, conflicts. Usually with the video card sharing resources, or the processor and firewire bus talking over each other in conversation.
You mentioned you have more than one video card? I truly find it hard to believe that you don't have any problems running the 002. If you have any other PCI cards at all, I'm straight out calling your bluff. With no tweaks? Yeah right.
Now I NEVER had issues with my Firepod. That's a firewire recording interface just like the Digi. But, it was built primarily FOR PCs. It's not merely a port or an emulation. Try running Windows XP on a Mac (or OSX on a PC...it can be done...) NIGHTMARES.
An alternative to UAD/Powercore? You're darn right! Good luck getting both of them to run at the same time!
All the headaches makes me miss working on a Mac. Then again, the system I built now is more powerful, and I don't get any BSODs like I did with the G5...Oh the times, they are a-changin'...
