I heard that the optional DSP expansion card increases the channel count to sixteen at 88.2k/96k and eight at 192k.

Does it increase the the channel count at 44.1 and 48 kHz?

I was talking about everything. You can use math to actually get a rough mix during the tracking phase using -18dBFS in the DAW as the loudest any peak should reach, which is usually snare drum if you're tracking without compression. With compression during tracking, things get more complicated.

I had a LM32 and 2-3 (don’t remember) UAD1 cards in a G5 running DP with a MOTU HD192 for many years before I went TDM (and then HDX years later).

I loved the combination of LM and UAD. They offered different flavors, but I basically relied on the LM for most of my track EQ/Comp and UAD for more extreme EQ/Comp and Delays/Verbs.

The LM had a bunch of great convolutions. I wasn’t tracking through plugs back then so latency wasn’t an issue. I still listen to stuff I did with that system from 15 years ago and think it sounds very analog. Whatever that means... but I guess I’m just saying that I believe that the technology offered what it claimed to... analog vibe in the box in the earlier days of digital.

I wouldn’t have sold it if I could have continued using it... sadly, FW400 obviously/inevitably went the way of the dinosaurs. Oh well.

I just bought one this month, since it was on my bucket list during high school (I have been doing a lot of high school gear shopping from the years 2002 - 2006). It was fickle to get it to work via thunderbolt on Windows 10 and I think my rig just said "nope, don't like apple adapters not going to do it for you". I tried the known way to have it working, the problem was jBridge which I never liked using. I tried Bridgewize with a FW card and magic happened 16 times in one mix (meaning more than one instance). It does not disconnect at all, it does stop working at all (for me). It just works, and using this with Console 1 is an incredible workflow. DSP should be more of a thing again, rather than only UAD and MOTU and whatever is else is around now.

This thing is a steal for 70$!!

I bought the LM32 a while back for 40 Euro and just recently hooked it up to my Mac Mini (late 2012) 2.3 GHz i7. My DAW is Reaper v6.70/OSX64.

I physically opened the LM32 yesterday to discover it has the expansion card. I will remove the card at some stage to see what differences it makes.

I added Peeders Snapshots which gives you the original hardware Comp and EQ names in the snapshot field but it doesn’t load the matching Focusrite emulation names in the Comp or EQ fields. I need to look into this more.

Anyway, it’s working well, hardware knob changes show up on the plugin and visa versa. I haven’t used it that much so can’t comment on how buggy or stable it is just yet.

This is my first post on here although I have found gearspace very helpful over the years.

I am hoping to run the LM on the exact same machine, albeit in Logic 9. Would you mind sharing what version of OS X you are on? Are you running Reaper in 32 bit mode or using it's 32>64 bit bridging (or a plugin wrapper like 32 lives?)

I'm looking to set up the most stable environment for the LM plugin to run in so I can use AVB to stream audio from my main iMac running logic Pro X over to my Mac Mini, essentially using it as a DSP box.

In an ideal world, the Mac mini could run my Logic Pro X session, host my audio interface (Saffire 56) AND the Liquid Mix but getting the plugin to play nice in the 64 bit environment is not as stable as I want.

I'm open to using Reaper, if that version is stable with the LM plugin. Only chose Logic 9 for its stabily using 32 bit plugins up to OSX Mavericks.

I always wonder why focusrite didnt release a native versio;of those and a simple controller bassed on this ....

This thread revival reminded me I have a LiquidMix stored away.
Fond memories of this one, especially the eq.
Don’t have a system capable of running if anymore.
Might just get an old MacBook or Win Laptop

Sorry for potential stupid question here. I'm looking for a cheap way to sidechain compress/duck my hardware synths. Would I be able to use a liquid mix 16 without a computer? Or in worst case only have the liquid mix connected to a computer, with all my other signals going to an analog mixer? Like I want to keep my setup as computer free as possible.

LiquidMix only runs with a computer.

For a cheap hardware solution, I'd look at used analog PA/live sound compressors, 90's or 00's (klark teknik, drawmer, dbx)

Liquid mix doesn't have sidechain for ducking.

Just for anyone's future reference, the manual mentions side chaining options a few times so I would assume Liquid Mix *does* do sidechaining.

It would be a pretty glaring obmission if not.

I have a LiquidMix 32 (cost me £15 ! That's how cheap they are now ... ) .. but still not got around to setting it up.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but the 'sidechain' in liquid mix is for EQing the compressor trigger.
For de-essing in excample.
You can't feed it with a external other signal for ducking.
