Am I so very wrong to feel traces of vomit in the back of my throat ???

Anyone use the Lindell 7X-500? Never realised it was $29 as standard, and I don't yet have an 1176 plug.

I never noticed that either, so why is "Channel X" way more than the 3 units separately?

I got Channel X for a discount back in the good old days. The preamp and EQ are pretty darn cool. I didn't spend enough time with the compressor to form a strong opinion. There's a lot going on there.

I really like it. It's very heavy handed but that's what I like about it. Anyway there is a mix knob so you mix in however much of the crushed signal you want.
I love it on electronic drums. It distorts them in a very nice way. It's good on acoustic drums as well if your looking for that sound. It does tend to suck some bass out of the signal though so having it in channel X is nice because you can add some bass right back in. Being able to drive it even harder with the Preamp is also nice sometimes so I must say channel X is a pretty good tool altogether. When I first got it I thought having those 3 modules stuck together seemed a little bit arbitrary but it makes sense to me know.
I know you are talking about the standalone though and I'm sure it's really cool on its own too.
I'm thinking of getting the standalone with one of my vouchers one of these days because it would be nice to not have to turn off all of the saturation I don't need when I only want the comp. That and there really isn't anything else that I want to spend money on from PA anymore (other than license transfer fees).

How about these Eventide plugins? Someone to talk to us about them?

I have the Elevate bundle. It's supposedly great, but very cpu hungry. My quad core series 4 i7 can only run about 7 of the 21 or so bands in Reaper before I get hickups.

I own the Elevate Bundle, Ultraverb and Ultrachannel.

The Elevate bundle is def. in my Top 10 Best Plugs ever. The EQ is so naturally and invisible sounding you can go to extremes - if you stay with the MEL-Scale that is. It is the only EQ I remember of that uses the MEL-Scale (how pitches and frequencies are perceived by the human ear).
And the EQ matching feature is alse nice.

The Limiter is a bit harder to work IMHO because of the tons of options that need some time to get your head around it but you can also achieve massive limiting without sounding squashed. But also very CPU hungry, because it has real adaptive AI at work. You also get the various modules from Elevate as single plugins also, included in the package, which is nice.

If you won't take my word check the release thread here on GS.

Ultraverb may not be quite up there with Flux Verb (which I consider among the best software reverbs) but it is still really good, esp. with the tons of creative modulation options you very rarely see on other reverbs.
If you like the Eventide (H8000) Reverb Sound generally (I do) and you are into sound desgn, this is a no brainer.

Ultrachannel, if you don't mind the tiny,tiny GUI, is powerful tool with e.g. the algos from the Omnipressor and Micropitch.
It is more 'colorful' than other Channelstrips like Metric Halo (which is about equally dated).
IMHO pretty underrated but I would not exclusively rely on it.

Quadra and Octavox I don't have but I am getting Octavox (been waiting for a while now to be on deep sale again)
They are supposed to be a realtime Pitchshifter with delay. Algos are from the H8000.
The big version ca be played live via MIDI. Seems a bit comparable to the Soundtoys Alterboy, just with 8 voice pitch-shifting. So I guess this will be a ton of fun.

I think the intro price is actually 99€ but I presumably get this offer because of other Arturia stuff I have though I'm not sure which makes the difference.............

Is there a commercial from the geniuses in the Arturia marketing department where someone looks at their watch and is like "oh god I'm late" then tries putting a space echo in a backpack, only to be mugged on the way to the gig, but WAIT I have the Arturia DELAY COLLECTION WINK* and everything is just fine at the gig and everyone loves the show.

I can talk to you about these if you have questions.

Elevate is the real deal and quite different than anything else I have. I dare say if I knew what I was doing I could master using the bundle without anything else. As it is makes my demo recordings sound finished...... Amazing value FWIW....

I love the Elevate bundle and never have a problem on my 2012 Macmini i7. You can reduce the number of bands / crossovers which will make it even lighter and you'll likely not hear any difference.

I was in the market for a multi-band limiter to compliment my wide-band, and this one worked for me whereas I never gelled with Limitless, for whatever reason.

I also find the EQ has a way of sounding like you haven't applied EQ... hard to explain but I suspect it has to do with the unusual crossovers and that the EQ shapes are jagged and not the typical smooth shapes. I also find it pretty useful to set up a custom EQ preset with favorite frequencies, like a custom graphic EQ.

I don't think this is a good plugin if you want to get an 1176 type of sound. Too heavy-handed, and too hard to dial-in. It has its uses, but for me it's a hit and miss. There are other things that are way more reliable. It can sound good when you want to get short bursts of distortion though, e.g., when you prepend it with an expander or transient shaper and then shave off the excess with it, just remember to make sure the lower frequencies are ok.

Just out of curiosity: which arturia plugins do you have already? Except for the Matrix and SEM filters, I have all the "...you actually use" plugins, and they offered me EUR 69.-

I am interested into the multiband limiter, the transient processor and the EQ, which all seem very interesting and innovative, but i have a rather naïve question about Saturate : is it "just" a "regular" clipper (like, for instance, Standard Clip, V-Clip, or the saturator module of BlueCat Destructor), or is there anything special running under the hood making it different from others ?
(I am not trying to imply anything negative -there is nothing wrong being a simple, efficient, good-looking clipper-, just trying to figure out what to expect ).

They gave me a deal a while ago where I got all the "You actually use" for EUR 99 but I also have V Collection 7....I don't know if that has any relevance.

Eventide Elevate Limiter is a desert island plugin for me. I use it literally on every track. I think it easily outclasses the Pro-L that I used previously.

The graphic EQ can be good but I just find it to be really tweaky. You have to be careful with it.

I also got an Arturia offer for $49. I'm gonna do a Space Echo shootout between Arturia, UAD, and Audio Thing to decide what to buy. This is something I need to buy, a good tape echo plugin. Never got around to it but now's the perfect time.

Saturate has some interesting technology which I wrote about most eloquently on the product page:
"Any audio signal can be broken down into a number of sine waves at different frequencies. When you overdrive that signal the higher amplitude low frequencies can often swamp the midrange and higher frequencies that your ear is more sensitive to. Because of this, signals under heavy overdrive can lose some of their finer detail and sound “tubby” or “muddy”. This is because the lower amplitude sine waves of the midrange and high frequencies are being removed by the saturator when the low frequencies are at the top and bottom of their swing. This causes shifts in the tonal balance which are dependent on the frequency content of the signal.

Saturate uses a special Spectral Clipper technology that adds this finer detail back into the saturated signal. The signal is still saturated based on the curve, but the sine waves at different frequencies are treated independently, meaning that the large low frequencies don’t crowd out the finer detail frequencies, and that the tonal balance at the output is the same as the input - with only harmonics added."

That said, the effect is relatively subtle and the product solves the same problems as most clipper or saturation plug-ins - it's most useful for reducing the dynamic range of tracks without making them sound compressed, or when "overused" it'll give a nice clean overdriven sound which can sound good on instruments, vocals, busses, or even the whole mix. It's a pretty versatile plug-in, and I only made it because users requested it after Elevate came out, but I find myself using it more often that I would have thought.

Wow! Apparently most of the Eventide plugins on offer are excellent and would be very useful. I have the budget to buy one or two. What a difficult choice ...

It might be easiest to wait for a good deal on Anthology XI, SolArt.

I doesn't include the Newfangled Audio plugins, but at least it'd cover all the Eventide ones.

you should be able to get Eventide UltraReverb & UltraChannel pretty cheap on Ebay or secondhand here or on KVR, Solart.

I’d never put the Eventide Elevate Limiter above FabFilter’s Pro-L2. That one reigns supreme IMO.
I do agree that the UltraChannel is something special. Too bad its GUI is somewhat dated.

I've found the 7X-500 to be very sensitive to input level. It's aggressive for sure but if you hit it somewhere around -14dB it's much easier to dial in a good sound. Then adjust the Dry/Wet mix to taste. The 6X-500 Preamp with a little bit of low boost before the 7X-500 is great on drums.

Isn't the input knob just the gain adjustment? Sending -14dB can make the range of that gain knob more reasonable, but does it change the sound/reaction in any way, is there some additional stage before the input knob?
