Hi all - do you know if PA ever drops the price to buy Metric A/B outright? I haven't bought (or subscribed to) any PA products before. $199 seems steep.... would really appreciate if anyone has a referral link or coupon I could use

It was 40 or 50 not long ago, but they recently launched the subscription model and as of yet we're not sure when / if those great sales will return.

Wrong time to arrive pal, pretty much everything was $29 before the subscription! Everything is way overpriced at regular prices. Sign up to the promo emails and keep an eye out, they might come back.

In the process of weaning off of my Plugin Addiction, I used my shriveled 25,- monthly voucher and payed 4,- (including VAT) for the Lindell 6X-500, just to complete the collection. More saturation options. Interesting filters.

Would have gone for the Mäag Magnum-K if the vouchers woulda stacked.

I think I got all I need from PIA and Bx for now anyway. I don't need seven different iterations of an SVT. I'll just wait for that Purple 1176 to go on sale some day.

Moving on I am. Got some great deals from iZotope and TDR these last few weeks.

However, I suspect what you really mean and didn't say was "don't go subscription. If you hold on, PA will change their minds, dump the sub just like the PickPack and bring back the monster sales".

Still, PA seems to have a new sale out now, complete with a voucher. Man, they’ve been pumping out the plugins lately. I’ve got my eye on a few, not sure I can pick up any this time though, unfortunately. Maybe, but I have other priorities.

Yeah that's the video, the CV probably wouldn't we worth getting if that's all it was used it for, low level warming up with overdrive off. The magic is when it's pushed and where digital seems to fall apart.

I keep saying I'll do some demos of the CV vs PA saturators but I haven't yet bought a new audio interface since buying the new Mac mini. Might have some time next week to dig out my old computer/interface.

Since saying I'm getting back into hardware I've been going through tonnes of comparisons and I might go back on my words, I really can't tell any worthwhile different between hardware EQs and compressors haha plugins it is.

Yeah the voucher was definitely offensive. And PA is walking on a really thin line for a while now, hope it ends well.

But for the subscription:
No it doesn't i love it, i waited for a while as already was a heavy hitter but i finally made the jump, i canceled a few other subs i wasn't using that much (no plug-in companies), i sold some other plug-ins that i don't use a lot, so i paid that way for my heavy hitter monthly discount, and i keep paying like that.
It does have loads of plugins included and that can be a positive but a negative think too, it depends on how you see it.
So that way i can use any plugin i haven't bought before for any project that, or ones i just need to use for specific projects or sound design explorations and i get great inspiration from many that i wouldn't bother buying, then i print all tracks with effects, as i always do after a point (always keeping a backup file though, one with plug-ins on and one with dry tacks), or if i'm doing production/sound design i always print at a point with a few exceptions.
And finally if ever the sales comeback , i will buy my most used plug-ins from my subscription period, and keep the subscription on and off depending how much i need it if don't want to keep it. Although i wouldn't subscribe yearly.

Not a necessity, a bit excessive but a nice addition to my workflow and my other go-to tools that i own, and a way to keep me from buying new stuff as i will have always something to explore and mess with that i don't regularly use.

is PA support backed up I sent them an email a week ago and still haven't heard back. They used to respond within a day.

I'm a "heavy hitter" who bought all but about 6 of P-A's plugins before this new barrage of plugins and the 'bargain' of subscription (basically SaaS-like (Software-as-a-Service)) dependency-scam model started by unfair-trade practicers like Microsoft and Oracle who ran out of innovative ideas, but needed to guarantee regular income for the board of directors.

I don't do subscriptions, SaaS (or as Richard Stallman calls it, Service as a Software Substitute) !

I don't use dongle-based, mainly because they plug up the few ports I have on my MacBook Pro, but also because I have to carry and plug in the key every time I want to mix with their hand-cuffed software. (I don't mind licensing software to my computer, just don't require me to carry the keys to my own kingdom.)

I bought my plugins because even if P-A goes belly up (which I doubt will happen for a long, long time), the plugins should keep working until my computer breaks. Even the older plugins will still work.

I thought the Pick-a-Pack was nice for those who thought it was nice for them.

But the SaaS model reminds me of holding your mixes hostage for a monthly fee. Stop paying, and it's like some tough guy walking into your studio and saying, "Ay. Dis here mixer looks pretty expensive. It sure would be terrible for some of your stuff to suddenly go missin', or catch fire, or just disappear. Now, wouldn' it?"

When someone offers me a Bum's Rush (like this 48-hour deadline with a minimal gain for me), I ask myself two questions:

1) Is there really anything in it for me at a price I'm really willing to pay?
2) What's really in it for them.

I congratulate you on your firm stand. With us other Plugin junkies, those flash sales do something to our brains that makes it VEEERY hard to resist buying yet another "unique" EQ to add to the many we already have.

Ill let my voucher go to waste at this point. Unless they give a deep discount to the focusrite console or SHMC, I dont need anything from them anymore.

The only reason I'm sticking around is to see what the Neve console looks like that's supposedly coming in September. And will it be any different than console N that we have now? Other than that I have everything I need from them. Not that I (and others) wouldn't mind seeing a $49 or even $99 sale on the SHMC

Also, has anyone tried doing the TMT thing across a whole mix? I only do mastering and I noticed the SSL G just shifted the balance of L/R by up to 2.5db which is obviously of no use in my case.

They've either got to do it by small amount regularly like Netflix or wait a while and pretend it isn't a problem until they're forced to put it up by a larger amount.

I mean let's face it, they could be real assholes and wait 2 years then put it up by $10 and people will have 2 years worth of work they'd not be able to open.

Didn't read any fine print but they claimed it would be $149 a year forever, but it can't be FOREVER.

Still regretting not getting Vertigo VSC2 and Opticom for $29 when I had the chance eying up the Opticom 500 series module now, VSC2/3 hardware is way too professional for me though.

Where’s the Neve info? The thing with these consoles is that it takes a lot of time to get to know them unless you’ve worked on the real thing for years. Right now I know the SSL E pretty well and how I want to use the various settings. When I tried the Focusrite, it felt like I’d have to invest a ton of time just to see if I would find it as useful because it didn’t make an initial “wow” impression on me.

Download a mix session and use the Mega Bundle plugins to mix it yourself. First session is Save My World by TriStateCorner, mixed by Dirk.

According to PA, sessions will be available in "at least 2 DAW formats!". I won't hold my breath for my beloved Digital Performer to ever be one of them.
