Anyone know the SCM 12's? What are they like? A decent near choice for nearfield - or not?

I have the SCM 12s at home. I think they are less forward in the mids/tops, or a bit laid back compared to the pro models. Need a lot of power as well- I found a brighter more clinical hi-fi amp (such as audiolab) sounded better than some pro mosfet amps I tried. Great for listening not sure about mixing though.

The SCM12's aren't made anymore-they've been replaced by the similarly spec'd (but improved upon) SCM11's.

..but yes the 11's,with a decent amp would kick the crap out of the vast majority of nearfields.

The scm11s don't have the asl bass driver, the scm19s replaced the 12s.

..Just checked specs..and yes,that would seem to be correct..my mistake.

(..I guess the clue should have been that an '11' would unlikely be marketed as an improved '12'....!!)

Have you by any chance compared the 11's to the 19's?...or otherwise,an ASL driven vs non ASL ATC?....I love the 11's and the 19's are very similarly spec'd..

My current monitor company - a very respected american brand - is heavily letting me down /
not answering mails etc.
and I´m seriously thinking about switching to atc...

To me the Barefoots sound like a little home stereo with fizzy top end and no mid range definition compared to the SCM 25. ATC is a great company to deal with too.

Probably one of the best speakers around in it's class. But it really depends on your taste after that. It's possible that they might not be your thing based on your taste and how you like to hear music, which is of-course, very subjective.

Apart from that, hardly any of the ATC models that I've heard could ever be called "not accurate" .. They're simply one of the best out there ..

SCM 25's are some of the best nearfield's I've ever heard.

No I haven't compared. The 12s are pretty special though, I like the 70s looking cabinet very classic. From what I understand the 19s have a bigger cabinet (lower bass), and the tweeter is seas instead of viva. Bass driver is the same. But the 12s really try to go down there and do it well, the bass is very accurate in the right room and with plenty of power. The 11s constantly are top of their class in hifi magazines.

Using the scm 50s with sub in the studio and they do have a similar sound balance- the midrange dome is killer on the 50s.

Ill let you in on something, I believe the ATC model numbers = the literage of the cabinet :-)

I am looking for pair of 75-150 mid dome drive units if anyone knows of a source (other than wilmslow). I have 100ASL pros and love them. Building a DIY pair from leftovers after I upgraded mine.

I have SCM20SL passive's and love them, particularly since I purchased the Bryston 4BSST to power them. I felt a little more low end extension with the Bryston.

After hearing Ben Fegen's ATC SM50's with a sub, I was inspired and have recently purchased a Velodyne DD15 to add to my ATC's. Unfortunately the sub is too large for my current set up. : (
I am working on a solution and cannot wait to power up the sub with the SCM20's.

Like everyone keeps saying...they tell you the truth.

The SCM 25 Pro are the most revealing monitors I ever had.
Microscopic midrange detail + great low end.

Amazing how speaker manufacturers get all this
into relative small formats these days.

Just bought a used pair of SCM20A's, upgraded by ATC with the new series drivers. Very revealing, depth, detail. And their customer support is, literally, about the best I've experienced.

I'm thinking of soffit mointing new 110's (diual woofers) into my new-to-build studio. Anybody any experience with this model?

I'm trying to do the same thing here in the states. I'm dying to upgrade the tweeters and crossovers in my 300asls. But no returns to my messages... Guess I'm not a big enough operation!

Crossovers have not been upgraded in years and years unless you have pre SL 300s with outboard crossovers. The crossovers, FET limiters and power are all now built in to a single rack mounted ATC P4. Tweeters have been AUDAX for some time as well. But experience has shown they could use replacing every few years.....

Spent some time recently on a pair of the ATC 100's and they were fantastic. Great detail, extended top without being harsh, solid imaging. Could have used a little more low end for my taste, but a little supplementing with a sub did the trick just fine.

I have switched to the ATC SM25 a few month ago and I couldn't be happier. They are the most revealing and best translating nearfield speakers I ever heard.

on the subject of ATC speakers, can anyone help me with an outlet to sell an ATC Sub?
I've got an ATC LOUDSPEAKERS SUB 1/15 PRO - SINGLE that I'm trying to sell. It's a bit high end to sell on craigslist, or Ebay, and I grow tired of people offering pennies for it.. is there a studio-grade classifieds site that anyone knows about?

I have the ATC scm100 in my room and it was the best thing I have bought (well the Neve desk was not bad buy either ...)
I used everything before , Adam, Focal ,genelec and many more I was actually using Dynaudio and focals foe many years but I have to say the ATC is another level (price wise too...)

I used to have 100's and they were great. My new room is too small for them, so I had to sell them to a local mastering studio. My friend has got 110's and I think they're spectacular! NOT HYPED AT ALL.

Yeah, I was afraid people were only going to mention great things about them - it kinda shows in the pricing . If I go the ATC route, then the new console will have to wait...

I am going to shoot-out ATC100's against Adam S4x-V's. I guess the 100's would give me a good idea what the 110's would sound like "in general".

I used to run my 100's with a sub. It was just a Velodyne. Nothing too fancy. The ATC sub is a bit pricey...Although I didn't spend nearly as much time with the 110's as the 100's, I never felt the 110's needed a sub.

I have a pair of the active scm150asl 3way midfield/mains, and the scm20sl passive 2way nearfields powered by a Bryston 4b-st amp. I love the ATCs!

I have SCM150A's, which replaced SCM50A's which always felt a little small for the room. Also SCM10 for nearfields (the retro looking ones, around 2003-4).

In fact I have a 5.1 system of SCM10's which sadly does not get nearly enough use - the 5.1 mixing revolution never happened for us. Still, it means I have a second pair of SCM10's in my writing room!
