Circuit Mono Station might be an interesting option, considering the built-in sequencer and the support for easy real-time or step sequencing of every continuous control (knobs and envelope faders).

Plus, it has that dirty analog juice to it.


On a related note, I stumbled across a video of someone doing convincing acid with a "standard" Circuit using the on-board Nova digital modeling synths. Reasonably good sounding analog approximation, at least to my ears.

I was wondering about that, since the mono station doesn't use the 'acid' filter from the BSII. I'm actually more interested in it for other kinds of bass, and to attempt thru CV to sequence a different little beastie for acid sounds, or liquidy riffs at least.

Anyone got an acid vid of the mono station or its sequencer at least?

One thing missing from what I’ve seen is having a good SEQUENCER for driving these synths...besides the obvious like the 101/202.

The Intelijil Metropolis is a fantastic and very jamable sequencer for an Acid feel.

Good. I don't know what they were thinking. I understand that the Monotron and Monotribe were just there to test the analog waters but having only 8 steps seems like unnecessary restraint bordering on useless.

Regretfully Korg's engineering dept. didn't have your wisdom at disposal when they introduced the Monotribe....
More importantly, being fervid on sequencing steps instead of sound, is imo a rather peculiar approach to acid.

Couldn't agree more. Its an instrument, so play it like one. Too many people content with just pushing a button.

Also - people forget you can chain them, so more steps if you want them.

This is my experience and opinion:

Get the moog slim phatty.
Can't even explain how acid this machine can get.
Also it delivers the finest subs!

I also used to do alot with the korg ESX, this can get pretty spacy too. Same story for the minilogue and even more for the monologue. the roland tb-3 also has other sounds than just acid, might look into that one too. the korg volca keys? Listen to the demo's, it's more acid than you'd expect it to be, I find this a Holy Grail when it comes to acid-like sequences.
Also the Elektron Analog Four is a monster when it comes to synths, no matter what style you want.
Also had the doepfer dark energy II, this is a beast when you mod a glide to it.
The circuit will also do just fine.
It's the person behind it & what you do after the original sound that counts the most.

You can use basicly anything that has a good filter (lowpass or highpass) and resonance.
But look for those things that don't lose their bas-sound when you resonate. The mam mb33 mkII also did a very good job at this.

Always use good reverbs (Shift line Astronaut V2 is a very good affordable pedal // it has space sounds, normal reverbs, arpeggiator reverbs with weird algoritmes,..// if you can get this one, if you have more money get a strymon big or blue sky)

If you still need to buy a DAW go for Bitwig (it has LFO's and alot of good synths inside, good reverbs, really nice fx and it costs very little, like 300 euros compared to 700+ with other DAW's)
For plugins look for Phosycon (the horn preset is insane whan you put the arp to random)
The Mini monsta is also a very nice vst for acid

Juno-106 same story
Epidemie and Mr Gasmask told me they use Sylenth1 in every song from Lennar Digital
Epidemie also used the retro 777 alot, seems to be a very nice sounding machine.

Never forget what composition and proper mixing can do, use alot of delays/reverb in combination with your filters and resonance etc.. and you'll be fine with any plugin/synth

Idk it's just your flow and taste, your intrest and feels, follow them, don"t copy, don't try just go with your guts and create some epic content!

if you have no basic knowledge about the construction of filters, not even which built in speakers, is not aware of what causes a stage on slope, it is understandable that something comes out of it ..
maybe consider what a slope with 4 stages is achieved .. not with 3

the jupiter 8 is really not a bad acid synth .. the only problem is that it is limited to 2000 pieces ..and today's prices ..

It 24db filter behave like 18db, same as 303. No rocket science involved.

James Brown's Funky People have already proven that.

For me the acid sound consists of three distinct elements, of which all are of course present in one specific silver box:

1. Squelch, as mentioned before; although quite a few filters I have tried can make a nice squelch albeit sometimes a bit different than "the original" The trick with resonance on other synths iss to not push it too far up.
   
2. Slide beheviour Constant time (exponential?) slide: On a 303 it doesnt matter what the span between two notes is; a semitone or two octaves, every slide takes the same time
   
3. Accent behaviour The 303 accent increases both volume and env-to-vcf depth. next to that it shortens the decay-time on accented notes and has a "build-up" effect: multiple quick successive accents get increasingly deeper.

The better you model these aspects with any synth sequencer combination, the more acidy it will sound.

The king of acid has to be the CS80. You have to try it to believe it.

it's primarily about the filter..IR3109 is really not bad, the 101 was used for x acidtracks .. all just a question of the sequencer ..

if you have a cs, you can try the same ..the plugin does it too

can't you buy a Roland System-1 Plug-Out Synthesizer and put the Jupiter plugin into it? or does it only do SH101 and Juno 106?

these plugins sound superb, I've been at an old man's studio. He had the juno 106 and 20 other legendary synths; he claimed to be a hyper-autist & his expertise was sound (idk if this was true but his work and ouvre sounded good) he told me the 106 plugin was an exact replica of the real thing, you can't hear the difference. He showed me some comparisons & I have to admit I could not hear a single difference at all.
The jupiter plugin does just fine so if you can plug this one out (or just go with the juno 106) you'd have a perfect acid monster!

The System-1 and 1-M will only utilize the monophonic PlugOuts (SH-2, Promars, SH-101, etc.). Shame because I'm not a System 8 fan, but I wouldn't mind the JX3P and Jupter PlugOuts in my rack.

Jupiter 4 but you need to have the MaisonVague mod. That’s the expensive bit.

Hi. Thinking of buying 2 intellijel atlantis/x. I could use 303 clones as well but I need modulation for cutoff frequency. Or is there some clones which have something similar? Im gonna use DAW for sequencing(still don't have bought a DAW, maybe I'll pick something with the best sequencers).

If you're looking at modular, there's a few good 303-esque modules out there. So far, my favorite has been the Addac Acid Voice. To me, it sounds closest to a real 303.

If it doesn't have to be modular though, I'd just get a TD-3-MO. It ventures outside of strict 303 emulation, so it's very versatile, it's got all the CV control that you could want, and it's way cheaper than any Eurorack module that I've found.

For modular, the AcidLab M303 is a whole lot better than the Atlantis or Atlantix, they are great as SH-101 type synths (on steroids), but they are nowhere near a 303 - I know as I have both, as well as Roland TB-03, Roland SH-01A, and a Behringer TD-3.

Remember it is all about the sequencer here as well, so keep an eye for one with slide, etc, like WMD's Arpitecht and the Metropolix.

I think Im gonna pick couple m303:s. Also acidlab miami Ive been GASsing. Is a fm-synth good for poly in that kind of music? late 80s acid.

Roland JX-3P can do some convincing acidy sounds, after all the filter chip in the 3P
is a simplified version of the IR3109.

I forgot to mention that it needs to be module. But maybe I'll check that boutique-thing or mks. Is that controller really working on mks?

E: Definetly oldschool sounding. And has more osc than juno.
