I am building a portable recording gig and hope for some advices from all the expertise out there:

The rig is aiming at being able to record acoustical instruments. Basicly classical music (Chamber music)

This is what i have so far:

1 Metric Halo ULN-8
1 Millennia 2-b stereo tube mic amp
2 Dpa 4003
1 AEA r88

I will now build out with 4 new microphones. I know i will in near future record Violin, cello, piano, teorbe (old baroque instrument), harp, percussion and female soprano.

Any ideas wich direction to go?

Im considering to build out the dpa park, maybe with two 4011, but i really have no idea.

any suggestions would be deeply apreciated

Have a look over the 3 Zigma line. Very versatile and impressive.

Well, mobile recording the above ensemble brings with it challenges but also a decision to make also... will you be just recording ambiantly or using close micing to be able to mix better later?

What would you normally use on violin? C414 for me.
Piano? My preference is a paid of U89s but Neumann-Gefell M930s also yield fantastic results.
Cello? 414 again. Of course a ribbon would also be choice here.
For me, the Thèorbe would prove the biggest challenge as it is similar to a baritone guitar but has a range from the baritone to a violin. I'd probably use two C460s on it.

I also do classical remote recording and also have a ULN8. I suggest thinking about in terms of main stereo matched pair + spot mics. We always have Schoeps cardioids in exact ORFT for the main pair, and use mono spots as needed depending on the particular group. Lots of things work well for spots, so I think the most important decision is how you want to get your stereo image (listen to THIS for stereo image demo). Actually, you should probably also post your question in the REMOTE forum to get the input of more people who specialize in this.

The Gefell M 930 is, indeed, a great mic. and is suitable for a wide range of applications, though for piano my preference is for omnis - eg: Gefell M 221.
