BASSROOM can be used as an EQ anywhere you like. The targets are designed for the master channel. So it's good to keep that in mind.

If you are on FLStudio watch out for output levels when bypassing/enabling the plugin. Have a limiter and use low volume.

I must say this is a gamechanger for me. Been struggling with low end for a long time. I bought and sold two different SubPacs. Knew something more ideal would come along eventually. Treated room, Sonarworks and Bassroom will hopefully equal a big win for me.

Thanks! Let’s say I analyze the drum bus only of a track I like. Then I can use BASSROOM to match on my drum bus. And then the same for bass. Analyze just the bass of a track I like and then apply to mine.

I was concerned about phase etc with a few instances of this but it sounds like we are good to go?

I will be buying in the next day or two. The changes are phenomenal.

Having used it on a few more tracks, it's a game changer for me too - I'm learning more about managing the low end (and system translation) from this plugin faster than any other way I've tried.

Building the mix on a trusty low end is so fondamental that i miss this very important rule/step so often..
Did attempt to replicate in Crave eq setting bells at 10 - 30 - 60 - 120 and 240Hz and the result was good but not exactly the same.. and it's indeed so fast with BASSROOM..
Now i have to revisit each mix i put BASSROOM on..

I have a feeling there's a bit more than just preset EQ curves happening but I may be wrong. Either way it sounds really really clean and I haven't been able to match with other EQs I have.

Same here, even when adjusting Q's on crave by hear.. BASSROOM has more clarity..
And the GUI is really fun! and quick to use.. more of 3D in that Room (joke)

Thanks so much for the feedback!! We spent a lot of time creating incredibly transparent filters and we're very glad that the audio community can hear it! Less phase distortion and less transient ringing in the low-end really does make a lot of difference.

I am a big fan for what Mastering the Mix is doing, yet I am
having some conceptual difficulties with this plugin.

The premise is that one can fix the bass region without simultaneously
adjusting the rest of the spectrum. How is this possible? Changing the
bass will affect the perceptual (and real) balance across the mix
and adjustments in mids and highs (and in between) will
invariably be needed.

The way i see it, the plugin design assumes that
the frequency balance is "ideal" (to some reference)
but the bass is off, and thus a correction to the
bass will bring everything to the reference (also assuming that
the total volume compensation will not affect the overall tonality
which essentially means that the original mix has same freq balance
at volume NOT matched to the reference and at some (unknowable)
total volume that it will "work out" to a perfectly matched
balance to reference at total volume matched once the bassroom
correction to the reference is in.

Another tool that attempts to address the bass problem
is the (outlandishly priced) Sounways' Core Production Bundle
the workflow of which separates out the low bass, fixes everything else
(including the presence of bass instruments in higher freq ranges)
then finalises the low bass in conjunction with the rest of the mix.
That makes perfect sense to me and can be replicated with
some basic filtering (no need to pay the $250 they ask).

In my testing I compared to Bassroom to FB Pro Q3, and to gullfoss
and indeed the single case where bassroom performed better,
was in a commercial mix that was a cover of another
commercial original with too much bass and everything else
more or less the same.

What am I missing?

Had a quick try of Bassroom earlier, really surprised just how effective this is, it seems so easy to get a solid result in a short space of time. The definition I've been able to get on some old recordings I tried has been stellar so far, and translation onto other speakers & systems etc is really consistent.
I also really enjoyed playing about with the different presets, just to try and better understand the differences in styles & frequency content - it;s really quite revealing and a great aid to better educate myself about low end.
Straight to the top of my "must buy" list and looks like another success for MTM - good stuff Tom.

Anyone having problems receiving the trial download links?

Have requested 3 times with different email addresses and not yet received any mail.

Funny I thing is, I have an account on MTM homepage, this email does not work either?!

Edit: Nevermind, received it after some minutes of waiting on all emails at the same time.
To MTM: maybe add a note that it can take up to 10 minutes until the trial mail arrives. Also the download links are not very visible in the mail. It sounds like I have already downloaded them (text is underlined, but not visible, that these are the actual download links)

this thing is genius. no-brainer, instant buy for me. I loaded an old mix into pro tools and inserted bassroom and soothe on the master and within a minute the mix was significantly better. punchy and clear with minimal effort.

as a musician who mixes and pseudo-masters my own stuff, and occasionally for friends who have no budget to go to a pro, this is exactly the kind of tool i'm always looking for.

really well done. and thanks for the very reasonable price. i'll be looking forward to whatever you guys do next. you're brilliant.

I'm getting crashes in Wavelab 9.5 with the vst3 version. I cannot open a preset (mastering set-up) which also contains Bassroom. Anyone else having this problem ?

for me it is both helping in getting bass clarity, but also wants to add a lot of sub information, which seems like too much.

Anyone else seeing this - my monitoring is pretty accurate, so I'm not sure how to interpret these results?

I also agree with consnyc, that you cant just change to bass without effecting the whole presentation of the rest of the mix as well.

It does sound very good for eqing bass, regardless of the "guide" features - Will keep trying it out....

Nice idea...

I don't have 50£ to spend in a new plugin like that (even if i'll try the demo - you never know), but there's something interesting in these kind of new tools : they give you some guideline to experiment by yourself in the same direction.

It may look stupid, but I never EQed bass frequencies with such precise predetermined areas (like theses octaves 20/40/80/160/320 Hz).
I did a preset rack with ProQ3 and started to experiment : it works.

I don't know how this plugin is working (I asked for a trial, but I didn't receive nothing yet), and of course I know this plugin brings more than just an EQ (kind of AI analyzing the mix and comparing it with models in specific genres), but I like when plugins give me mixing ideas.
Last time, it was with the panEQ plugin, that I could replicate with StereoFlux and Live utility.

Haven't tried it yet? Does this basically just mono the bass in the lower frequencies? I typically do that to make my bass tighter. Just curious as I have that to try it.

No, that's not what this is about. It manages key frequency ranges in the low end really really well. It also has a reference section that can pull the low end info from a reference and suggest where to place the bands.

Gotta chime in to say: this plugin is a lot of fun! And surprisingly useful. I'm a pretty experienced mixer, working in a great-sounding room, and generally, I'm pretty happy with how the low end of my mixes translates. But I just fired this thing up on a record I'm working on (where Ive been very pleased with the mixes) and it's been fascinating to see what it comes up with.

So far I've been pretty consistently able to wrangle a bit more depth and thickness out of my existing mixes using bassroom, often with just a few <1dB adjustments It's really been eye-opening to see what a few tiny adjustments can do to the depth and impact of this material. And even when I find a preset target that's asking me to make more than a db of adjustment, the results are good. Not necessarily better than the existing mix every time, but it's certainly opening my ears to a few different possibilities in terms of how I could build the track and manage the low end.

I'm finding it particularly fascinating to experiment with its placement on my master fader. Before vs. after mix compression, or tape simulator, and so forth. It hits the downstream processors in different ways that I'm finding to be VERY useful to experiment with.

My only gripe is, I very much wish there were A/B functionality, because I'm finding multiple settings that are useful, and it's be great to toggle between them.

Mastering The Mix

Hi, seems like its tightening up low end. But I'm not getting those target lines in the sides, so have no idea how to make adjustments. I'm using it within Izotope RX7.

Returning to mention another cool finding: according to Bassroom, I'm consistently under-mixing the 40-80Hz range. This is a very useful thing to know, and particularly useful as I make tweaks within the plugin to compensate, I can really hear some shortcomings in these mixes (or maybe even my room?), which is so incredibly useful. Very impressed with this plugin.

I'm very intrigued by this plugin as getting a good bass tone is always a challenge.

I'm curious, what does this plugin do that you can't do by using something like Metric AB and matching the low end frequency response of reference tracks using whatever EQ you want?

Also, wouldn't it be better to go back into the mix and adjust instruments individually to achieve the correct response (I'm assuming Bassroom can tell you as it changes), instead of applying broad eq on the master?
