Wich meters input or output meters?

Last time I checked (this was in the last year) increasing the input level had no impact on the input meters.

Btw, did they told you when the update can be expected?

Thank you for providing the conversion info and details. I use console N but I never tried to use the meters until recently when I wanted to see if I could simplify my workflow by using the meters instead of a stand-alone VU plug.

I'm looking forward to the update to standard calibration but in the meantime this should do fine :-)

Edit: I'm glad that the meters make sense with the adjustment, but now I'm really voting for that calibration option to come through because the resolution is so much lower down at -10VU compared to 0VU.

I originally tested with the output meters. You are correct in that the input meter does not follow the changes from the input gain knob. I just brought it up to them.

You're assuming Dirk gives a rat's ass about what customers want. Based on his comments and actions from the last couple years, I'd say that's a pipedream.

What is this 'dump facility'? Google turns up nothing software programming related.

"Dump Facility" is the term AMS Neve uses to describe the option to lower their metering by 6dB. Brainworx uses this term to describe what's going on with their VU meters.

"A 6dB Dump facility is provided for the VU bargraph meters
which decreases the sensitivity of the meters by 6dB. This
allows metering of signals which peak above +3 on the
meter scale."

Thanks for the explanation. Never heard the term before. Why not just call it what it is and that's 'meter offset'? Or would that be too damned simple?

I wish they would fix the meter issues, but they seem more busy with FB fanclub than fixing any real issues (Iron and Magnum aliasing?).

All three of the console's (N,G,E) are for sale for $49 for the next 2 days. Anyone have any thoughts on why one would choose one over the other?

I like G the most because of the EQ sounding thicker, and less aggressive, if I need precision I use proQ.

Agreed! The EQ sounds beautiful on the G and I also prefer that to E.

Btw I was totally blown away by bx_console. I actually prefer the compressor to my hardware G comp on some sources.

I meant the new SSL 4000 G, not console N.

Still prefer EQ on legacy Console G over anything released later. However the compressor is better on SSL4000 G version.

FWIW: Michael Brauer is using the new bx_E as his SSL channel emu of choice on every track in his new hybrid setup. He said he checked them all out and liked this the best.

If you guys had to chose 2 of the 3 for techno production, which ones would you chose?

I’m considering all of them at this price but I don’t know if the 3 are all so different that I need them all.

My first choice for techno would be the G. Because you get both E and G dynamics in each SSL plugin it might then make sense to get the N as your second choice.

Thanks man, that's a good point. How different are the EQ's between the E and G? In demoing both, I'm highly impressed with both of them in terms of equalization. Might be worth the extra 50$ to get both.

When using the E and G for techno I mainly use the EQ on the G but find the E EQ might work better on a bass synth sometimes. That is the main reason I also have the E.

Bought all 3, I couldn't resist at that price. They all sound incredible. I compared the EQ's to a lot of plugins and they really shine in different ways. I'm on the road a lot so they will serve me well on my laptop. UAD when I'm home in the studio.

As someone mentioned, it's time to sift through my old plugs and start selling some stuff off, I really want to downsize my options and just focus on some quality plugs. I'm trying to make a rule, if a new plugin enters my house, I need to kick another out. There just isn't space anymore for everybody!
