I downloaded the session file, and, man, the bx version is really really close to the real deal. Awesome plugin. To be fair, IK was very good to my ears too.
Didn't liked UAD and MixHub, they were the most different from the hw.
Iβve seen this video. Itβs really a terrible shootout. SSL eqβs are notorious for not lining up to the proper frequenciesβas they are marked on the channel strip. One ssl emu may have a higher frequency at 8k than another emulation. Even the gain varies from plugin to pluginβbecause the HW console varies too. So just simply visually copying the settings from the console to the plugin will have varying results.
The best way to do a shootout like this is to use a program called plugin doctor. You can analyze the eq curves of both hardware and software to accurately match the eq settings. I have done this with a HW SSL and my results were that the UAD SSL was crazy close! The settings look a bit different from the HW to software, but the Plugin Doctor software confirmed the curves.
The UAD version also emulates that classic snap from the compressor that the HW version has. I canβt get that from the BX version.
Lastly, soloing a snare drum is not the best point of reference for a shootout. You really need to mix a song with each plugin to see which one works best for you.
I think the BX SSL is a good plugin. For absolute authenticity, the UAD gets the trophy. Based off of my experience.
