I haven't watched the video but I have the Bx and the Waves and find that in general the Bx wipes the floor with the Waves, which sounds pinched and flat in comparison (to me).

But I suspect that if you could peer behind the curtain of these cross-branding business deals you might find that they're just looked at by a company like SSL as a way to generate an income stream and there's not some rigorous oversight or cooperation on the actual product. That's the only way I can conceive of something like the totally messed up metering going out the door on an official release.

How does that work atm?? Does it seem ok, i quickly tested it and got vague differences on the meters for every source i put into it.

Well it's not really about which one is a better compressor, but which one is closer to the thing it's emulating, for better or for worse. Many people absolutely hate the real 4k channel comp too.

Seems that way to me too. OvertoneDSP had a much more spot on channel dynamics emulation (by actual former SSL engineers) yet SSL forced them off. The main reason simply has to be money...

You might recall the well-regarded Overtone 4000 plugs vanished from sale about the same time. No one’s really speculated that SSL might have contested BX’s use of their brand, and that the “SSL Approval” was something done under duress. I certainly don’t have any inside info to suggest this, but then, neither does anyone else for their speculations.

I recall Jim saying in many SSL emulation related threads they don't put their name on something which they think doesn't deserve it. Not saying it's about money, too.

I just downloaded the trial version of ssl4000e channel strip.
It is possible to load a mono version of this plugin in Reaper? I can see only the stereo version in the plugin list

There are no separate mono and stereo versions, but the DAW should take care of it, Reaper should be no exception.

You have to use the VST3 version, then request a mono bus from the pin connector "I/O" tab in Reaper, then fix the routing so that it outputs only channel 1 back to Reaper through channels 1 & 2.

Then save that as a Reaper preset or fxchain so that you don't have to do that every time.

Can anyone tell me how to get a mono ssl channel in studio one? I think you just insert the track but reading through this thread has me wondering if thats the case or not.

It’s been a while, but from what I can remember you just insert it on a mono track and you get a single channel number in the display instead of two.

Yes, that should do it. At least in my case it does. Mono track->mono plugin appears (only one channel number as you said)

I had an opportunity to use the BX SSL E on a mix last week. I really like the vibe of this SSL channel compared to others on the market. It has a warm midrange. I used the BX SSL E on all instruments, with the exception of a couple of guitar takes where I followed the BX SSL with a UAD Trident A Range eq plug (love that EQ on guitars). The BX SSL sounded great on guitars too, I just wanted to introduce another flavor to help with the sonic spread. But all Vocals, Drums, Bass and Synth used just the BX SSL E. I randomized the channels, all in analog mode.

I already owned SSL channels from UAD, Waves and Softube, so I wasn't sure I needed another one, but I am glad I bought the BX. It has a dimensionality and warmth that has a pleasing cumulative affect.

Anyone decided to run these oversampled/higher sample rate? Tried E version at 88.2 and I think the eqs sound much smoother, and closer to Sand 3s musicality!

How different is the E vs G? I have the g and it’s a super aggressive midrange but the highs aren’t smooth like an e. Does the e do this? Is it different enough that it’s worth considering?

I made a purchase At the plugin alliance but did not receive the plugin to my account. Money has been taken from my bank account and I have received a receipt for the purchase but no plugin.

They don’t add it to the account so they? I usually get the email with my code, go to the manager, download what I bought, install, then open my daw and the plug in and authorize it.
