So how does this series compare to the BM series? Aside from personal opinion, does anyone know where Dynaudio is putting them in the line?

Please do tell if anyone hears these. Always been a fan of the Dynaudio voicing, but never able to justify them as all around contender for main monitors lately based off the uneven translation reputation from the two-way designs. A three way design could change that, assuming they didn't cut too many corners to get down to a price point.

Uneven translation reputation? If Dyns don't translate I see then problems with the room or the engineer. One of the most accurate monitors without being expensive and this is one of the reasons they are the new BBC standard. Also countless records in the top charts mixed and mastered with them.

I respect that completely, was just my word-of-mouth experience from owners I've known, which shied me away from them despite liking the way they sounded. I also felt that they sounded a little too pleasing to be infallible from my own experience, which made me hesitant to get a pair for myself. I do acknowledge that I very well could've made that conclusion in error, falling for the "brutally honest" ism of the audio world back then.

I don't personally have much experience working on Dynaudios beyond hearing them briefly here and there in a few studios and store demos, and mostly the original BM6/BM15's rather than the Air or MK II/MK III. Definitely would consider giving these new 3 ways a demo.

Been a dynaudio user for 15 years. Owned bm5a mk 1, 2 and 3, Bm15a and Bm6a mk1. Also owned multiple monitors from tannoy, Adam, focal, yamaha, and urei. NOTHING translates as well as dynaudio monitors. Which is why I suppose the BBC bought hundreds of pairs of them.
If you've never actually mixed on their monitors you have no business commenting on how they translate.

I didn't mean to offend any Dynaudio users, and in fact I like Dynaudio a lot. I wasn't really commenting on how they translate, or expressing an opinion, but on translation reputation from person to person I know who've worked on them and had conversations with about in comparison to other monitors, and that being the reason I never let them get past a certain level of personal consideration. Chalk it up to poor word choice.

I never mixed on Dynaudios, but many times I checked my mixes at a studio close to mine that they own BM15's and BM5a and always my mixes sounds great on Dynaudios and represent my mixes the same way I hear my mix at my studio... so I do not know what that what means but I am very curious to one day mix on Dynaudios.

I always loved the dynaudio sound but never more than my speakers .... but this could be an exellent second (third in fact) pair ....

One thing i always found is tha their not fatiguing and pleasing to hear while precise in analytics listening ....

I'm looking to upgrade to a 3-way system in the course of a year or so, and the LYD looks reeeally nice on paper. If only they'd have the BR port on the front. Always bit of a struggle in small rooms.
The alternative, for me, would be a pair Neuman KH 310. A great tool as well, but 1.5x the price of the LYD-48. Guess I'll have both of the speakers in the studio for comparison when the time has come.

Anyone heard them? Not that I'd give too much on a hearing opinion on a trade show. But still, this site is about gear porn, right...
