Sorry to keep flooding the thread. I'm just excited to get these babies in and start mixing on them. Deckdaddy -- how are you finding the Kii Threes? Are you finding them a massive step up from the Lyd 48s? Obviously the Kiis are much more expensive and I've seen great things said about them. Even some mastering guys are using them (Streaky for one, for whatever that's worth, lol).
Congrats on the purchase!
Yes, Kii Three is a big step up, and should be considering price and excellent design. The Kii has much more headroom, extend super low, tight clean bass. Super imaging, the cardioid bass really works acoustically, the even dispersion, everything is just so darn great well executed top to bottom, front to back, and with the new built in 6 EQ/filters in addition to the high and low shelf and wall settings I could stop using Sonarworks correction all together.
It's a joy to produce, mix, master and listen on, very revealing, and easy to work with, I like to hear details and a clear picture of what I'm doing, still they're not fatiguing to my sensitive ears. It's a very good fit for both me and my room. I tried them in my untreated living room for fun and it would be a waste of money, the room is still important and I really can't understand Hi Fi folks that buy crazy expensive good equipment and neglect acoustics, and then expect to hear massive minute details from expensive upgrades like cables.
But the LYD, or other well designed speakers, in a properly treated room, set up right, will work well, and there is always diminishing returns, so you pay exponentially more each step up from decent, to good, to great, to excellent. I consider the Kii and the room acoustic treatments my most important tools for my sonic goals. Which might be different to others. I'm not sure I'd enjoy making super squashed harsh pop mixes or masters on them, but then I wouldn't enjoy that on any speakers.
I'm also interested in hearing the Dynaudio Core line, not buying them but I expect greatness. If I had the space for another pair of speakers without compromising the Kii's setup, I'd like a two way from Dynaudio. I'm glad I don't have room for many pairs of speakers because it's fun, I'd have way too many, just like headphones, curiosity gets me.
