I love and have several of the Nembrini amp sims and really wanted to like the Bass Driver but alas is not to be. While I was able to get some deep bass sounds I liked unfortunately there were clicks in the upper frequencies. Also the overall output level took a jump I wasn't expecting. I ran it against FabFilter Saturn 2 and it was no contest. Cleaner sound with no high freq clicks and the overall output level didn't go crazy. What I think helped was making use of the built-in per band compressor in Saturn - something the Bass Driver would do well to have.

Ah the Tonemaster - for me not the easiest to get a sound I like. Not that it can't get there it just takes some tweaking and NOT using the built-in ir's. The setup I really like with it is using either the Vintage 30 or T75 4x12 cab ir's from Redwirez. The TM is not your average Fender amp from days of yore. Clean sounds are not it's forte. And forget active pickups with it - get's fizzy in a hurry. A comparison that comes to mind - the Tonemaster is to other Fender amps like Lemmy's Murder One is to other Marshall amps.

The PSA is an emulation of the SansAmp in protools, which isn't really a sansamp at all. It's a multiband distortion, and a really nice one, but it's not going to give you the kind of sansamp sound you might be trying to achieve.

The Nembrini PSA1000 (and the PT version) are emulations of the Tech21 PSA-1 rack mount Sansamp. The Nembrini sounds great. The ProTools one, not so much.

Got a chance to dig into Hand Clap Studio today while working on a track. It didn’t seem to have much of an effect on my cpu at first. After increasing the number of claps and tweaking about it could get pretty cpu hungry, but nothing so bad that would prevent me from using it. Especially because it’s good at what it does with lots of velocity layers and round robins. I dig it.

Anyone has any insight regarding the difference between spectralayers pro and RX9 (or RX10) standard ?

I'm using RX9 but I don't like the workflow, I don't like the visual aspect of it (and it has of course some consequences on the way I work with it) and some features are missing from the advanced version (and I don't want anymore to spend any money on izotope products).
Some features are not working like I would too.

For exemple I find the de-reverb feature is not that great in RX, and I need some tools like ambiance matching and de-wind.

I need to test Spectralyers Pro and see if I can gain something compared to RX, but from what I see it seems much better regarding workflow and has some comparable features to RX advanced.

For 120€ (crossgrade from any RX), it seems like a very good bargain at the moment...

Not sure about the historical aspect of prices. I am currently on Cubase Pro 12 and will stick with that over Nuendo as I only do music and not post production and also beware that you have to surrender your Cubase licence if you crossgrade. @ GBP uses Nuendo so he's your man if you want to know more about the virtues of Nuendo over Cubase


The main benefit of SLP over RX for workflow is ARA 2 (but check your DAW to make sure that it will have ARA 2).

Plus, multitrack style of editing, including Photoshop-like layering. This is one of Spectralayers' (SL) strengths, so you may go back and forth to the tiniest detail, for which there is a plethora of detailed selection tools of all kinds.

RX is for those who want one click processing. SL if you prefer to delve and want to customize results, where it excels.

*For specific processes like unreverb, check several tools available (there are very good free ones) and find the best for you.

RX has ARA capabilities in the more recent Logic Pro X versions. ARA in Logic (starting with RX 8) could be a bit dodgy at times but seems to have improved some with RX 9 update (don’t have or plan to get RX 10 any time soon). I haven’t used SLP, although I agree and have read it can utilize ARA in other DAWs, and perhaps with less limitations.

Keeping an open mind here without all the recent business changes of iZotope, it seems that RX and SLP differ some in what they can do, each excelling in certain areas over the other. That said, I am also moving away from iZo when possible due to their business and marketing practices.

I just checked my sub, it HAS been released (even has pricing) but I don't have a usable license for it in my account. It still says expired. A bit aggravated by this, by the fact that the beta was a demo, the fact that customer service is non existent (waiting for months for answers to 3 emails that have remained unanswered) and finally, the fact that it is not available to purchase. Will definitely be downgrading after this little experience, the top sub is definitely not worth it

Their customer service philosophy appears to have been "we have their money already, they can wait" for so long that it's morphed into "they want to give us money, they can wait" just out of habit.

But they're active enough on social media to keep up appearances and tell you to contact their non-existent customer service.

After having my PA account "disappear" for a couple of days I'm starting to buy up non-PA alternatives to their plugins in case it happens again and I end up not being able to use their stuff while I wait for customer non-service to get back to me.
