i get what you are saying and i do seem to take advantage of duplicate freebies in order to not have to wup said particular one. however waves have sort of changed it from what they used to do and unfortunately register straight into your account…but it can still work to get a v14 when you only own a v12…

since sticking all my waves on a usb key i am not so agitated with waves on the 2nd license. it seems to work well with big sur but i tried on a external drive before with mojave and that was quite unreliable on my system… i don’t use much of waves really anyway…..

I understand the whole 'licenses on a stick' thing is very useful for some people.

It's the dictionary definition of frustration for me though. I guarantee it would always be hanging out the back of the wrong computer.

I prefer to keep life a bit more simple and I just avoid software that makes me jump through hoops to use. As time is my most precious commodity for making music, anything that stops me in my tracks is skating on thin ice.

Anyway. I have a very low tolerance for these frustrations, which is why I'm happy to have a naughty list of stuff I won't touch.

Waves is on that list, but I still find myself collecting the freebies for no sensible reason. :-/

yes i have a few which are a pain. there is another company that the audio goes through but without opening the plugin you wouldn’t know / realise ( unless you did lol) that it is not working as it needs signing in again over the net.

i really hate this style of having to authorise again every 2 weeks / one month, thus i tend not to buy these plugs if i can help it and i also refrain from using them as much too.

I made the egregious mistake of changing my computer's name as "MacBook Pro (2)" was a bit annoying.

And then all the plug-ins from a specific developer stopped working and freaked out.

NOTHING ELSE was affected by this minor change to my system.

FFS.

I have one evening a week making music with my old bandmate. And if 1 of those hours is spent trouble shooting and re-installing shit DUE TO COPY PROTECTION it really pisses me off. You might have noticed :-)

Paying for Netflix and Disney or Apple Music or Spotify is far easier and far more convenient to use than trying to steal music, movies and tv. I am happy to pay.

When using legit software is more hassle than stealing it, in my humble opinion, the developer has got it very wrong. And of all the software I use, it's only audio developers that have the shitty copy protection systems. Which is doubly annoying as I'd rather put up with expensive work software being annoying as I can put up with those kinds of annoyances at work. But steal my precious music making time and I won't be happy.

Just in case anybody is curious, I'm 100% legit and don't use any pirated software. There was a time my plug-in folder was 100% fallen off the back of a lorry. But been there done that. I'm a grown up now :-)

It inconveniences the honest, like with Blu-ray movies that make you watch unskippable trailers and ads that the pirates remove when they rip them.

It also make me appreciate and prioritise the developers that give me the best experience from start to finish.

But it doesn't work well for me right now, for whatever reason. Stutters like crazy over 3 seconds decay time when I'm working at 96khz. Contacted their support. A few other IR-loader reverbs have done the same, like Transatlantic Plate. Even Korneff Microdigital Reverberator did on one or two settings until a more recent update.

Damn! I shouldn’t have trialed anything else from Pulsar Modular because I want them all now. Ended up buying P11 Abyss too. Siren sounds so good but I’ll have to hold off and use the loyalty discount later.

It doesn't make any sense when they had / have all the anti-piracy garbage on DVD's that are totally legit. That just makes people want copies without all that patronizing numpty crap.

if one takes the time to really look... one will see that everything on earth has been flipped 180 degrees from what it actually is or should be... but, to flip it back, would kill the game, so we toil with it lifetime after lifetime.

Tried out a few of their plugins. Plate reverb was the best, but I opened up fog convolver 2 and some plate IRs an was able to get as good or better with it. The spring reverb had some nice features but audiothing's springs just killed it in versatility.

Plus both the plate and spring reverb ran at a steady 6% cpu, while audiothing's plugs maxed out at 3%. So audiothing saved me $60 today. I will have to thank them for saving me money by buying more of their plugins.

If you didn't try luna lander, do it, it's top notch sound. It can be incredible in certain types of guitars or synths, it is also one of the least expensive and soon they should update it.

All the fuse stuff is decent, and the attention to detail is nice. All I ever use anymore are the virtual preamps though, and I use them all... A LOT lol. The comps sound good too, but I always end up replacing them with other ones in a mix.

Trying out the VPRE-562A right now. Nice enough to replace 2 other plugins I've been using together to get the sound I wanted.

Yep, it's a good one with lots of flavor. Check out VPRE-2C also. It is more of a subtle tube sound, but it does this upper transient softening thing that sounds "classy." Almost always use it on the master bus, maybe 3 to 5dB drive, flat, and dial back the mix if it's too strong.

definitely two of his best.
