Lidell 50 if just for normal DAW use imo. I have American Class A by Softube and love it as well but I use it with my Console 1. Have zero experience thus far with UAD.

Yeah Neptune45 , normal DAW use is what I'd be using it for. I'm not a real experience engineer...that's for sure! I'll check out some more youtube vids on both of these.

Could be. Done time on both sides of the glass and on stage so I know when something sounds like it's supposed to and right now the current generation of amp sims from Softube and Nembrini fill the bill quite nicely. I've done all kinds of music so I think I have an ear for a good sound and how to get it.

I keep getting repeat customers so I must be doing something that people like. The flexibility amp sims give me really helps; I don't have the room or the money to have a stack of amps (not to mention the maintenance headaches of same). That I can change a sound by a few mouse clicks and make a customer happy - isn't that what it's all about at the end of the day?

No. As I said in the beginning - Softube Marshalls are a great tone-shaping tool however they sound NOTHING like Marshall amps. I agree they sound OK but don't act like a real amp at all.

I'm an old year's fiend... just got Capitol Chambers from UAD at the last minute.

After using it on a few things, and comparing it to the Nevo Plates & Springs IRs I also just got ($15 currently), I had to grab it. It's too good.

The Nevo Plates & Springs I'm not too sure about yet, but they're "OK." Capitol Chambers is instantly in the zone. This is my kind of reverb.

And I fiiiinally started using Renaissance EQ and and Compressor. I like them just fine, after all. They're sort of friendly and inoffensive, well behaved. A little warmed over, tiny bit soft, in a good way. Familiar from using the other Renaissance series plugins. I'm sure I'll use them more.

Going to skip the UAD API Preamp... didn't excite me in the demo. I'm well covered on crunchers, and I already have it built into the Vision channel strip.

UAD Distressor is growing on me. Crunchy and smooth. Who knew my new years eve would be spent on plugins and mixing. I think I'll finish that great Beatles documentary Get Back to finish out the year!

I love the ren eq and compressor. Absolute go tos for clean, transparent processing. A little of the EQ goes a long way.

2022 brings with it a sense of doom for me, since my new years resolution is to buy no plugins in 2022. I want to sell some too. Wish me luck!

So you don't care about making the one who pays you happy? Said it before and I'll say it again - they DO sound and act like real non-prettiedup Marshalls. They do act and sound like Marshalls I've played and heard over the years. But whatever dude.

Such a shame as well - there's just about to be released a plugin that all you have to do is instantiate it in your DAW as the final plugin on your 2 bus and it transforms even substandard mixes in to guaranteed number 1 hits.

Ouch glad I can still buy plugins in 2022. I mean, what are you going to spend your time doing this year then other than browsing for plugins - actually write, record, edit, arrange, mix and master yourself?

Geez - I much prefer clicking a button and letting some AI plugin do all that for me. I mean it's a guaranteed pathway to success.

Gotta agree with @ musicman691 that they are the best sounding amp sims itb I have tried and they sound like Marshalls to me.

However I also get (what you seem to be saying) in that no itb amp sim reacts exactly like a real tube amp - at least not yet.

But considering the ease of use and when used in a mix I think I actually prefer using amp sims now - less hassle all round.

I don’t want to get into a big real amp vs sim debate. I’ve used almost all of the sims on sessions and no one complained.
I’ve used and own a Kemper, no one has complained. I’ve gone back to using a nice variety of vintage amps, great cabs and mics, no one has complained.
Sometimes I plugin straight into the pre for that funky direct thing. It’s all good to me. Old amps have an added expense to keep them serviced, but I just dig the vibe, smell, look and character.

The main things I’ve found is that it’s just easier to dial in a sound with amps and pedals. I get to a sound that works with the track faster. I think it’s the same with hardware vs plugin compression. There’s a smaller sweet spot with the sims. Doesn’t mean you can’t find a useable sound, it just seems that with analog almost every setting works, if that makes sense.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that layering a lot of guitar parts definitely sounds better with the amps. Even if I use the same approach of switching amps, cabs and guitars when stacking with sims or amps…the amps just sound wider and layer better. I can layer with the Kemper and an amp and that still works but if I layer a lot with sims, it’s just different.

Most important thing when layering guitars with sims or real amps ime is to use different guitars if you can. If not then different pick-ups and different area of the fretboard.

There are two potential exceptions on my list: I'm allowed to buy the Trident Joemeek SC2 plugin when they finally get around to releasing it, and also the Relab TC 6000 plugin.

I'm working hard on improving my basic engineering skills, getting things right at the source. I got a hardware compressor for tracking recently, and got the best acoustic sound I've ever got by spending a day trying every conceivable mic position and taking careful notes. I have an Antelope Zen Go on the way with onboard DSP, and the idea is to get everything decent on the way in, then I have more than enough plugins to polish it off.

Whether I'll save time not browsing gearslutz is another question. I love chatting on here too much!

I mixed a band last year that had a mix of very high quality boutique amps and Amplitube 5. Amplitube 5 was pretty close come mix time in terms of quality, and I wouldn't say that is the best amp sim.

Nothing beats playing in front of a Marshall stack for the vibe though. Trouble is, by the time you've miced it up, your ears are shot and you can't do much else that day anyway.

I use an attenuator (Bugera PS-1 $99) with my DSL half stack, and it's a pleasure to stand in front of!

Used to have two half stacks in this tiny room. Currently down to a little 2x12...for now.

You need the pre amp to get the free summing api and console in Luna if you ever want to try that....
Should be only $25 with voucher if you own most of the other API’s.

Well, I know people who had played Marshalls for 30 years and still can't tell the difference between distortion and overdrive.
If those Marshalls sims sound and act like a real amps for you it's fine - Im very happy for you. Use whatever works for you.
