maybe some kind of plug police force should be assembled to beat peeps who talk smack about plugs. and then one could report peeps who are thinking of buying plugs that they don't need.

My Sono has arrived...

First impressions, it's really nice. Definitely feels more like a £400 rather than a £149 device.

Sounds good on guitar, as you'd expect... Feels latency free to me playing through the built in cab sim. I like being able to play without using a DAW.

I tried my old cheap 303 clone through the valve pre and it adds nice saturation/mild overdrive. My Uno synth sounded better (subjectively) through the pre-amp using the valve too.

I don't think the valve is a gimmick, it may be positive bias but I think that it makes the guitar feel more responsive dynamically, with more controllable grit when you dig in or via the guitar volume knobs.

All in all I'm very happy. It looks nice, feels nice and sounds great. The features suit my requirements nicely too. And it was a bargain and I love a bargain. It was £419 when new so I effectively got £270 added to my bank account, which is what I've convinced myself and therefore it's unchallengeably true.

Not seen a mention of the latest PA sales gimmick amongst all the bickering...

I also got it on my radar. Heard very good opinions on that one. I only by PA plugins by the hype and stopped going for any first hand demo experience with PA long time ago. I never demo those plugins before they hit bottom pricing as I won't buy them at higher prices anyway. And once they hit bottom pricing I'm generally OK with just buying them. However 30$ still is above my buying threshold with PA.

I’m going to keep it and when I need more IO I’ll use it alongside the Sono as an aggregate device; I’ll get all the benefits of the Sono plus I can still use the extra IO of the Meh if and when I need it for farting about with old gear and wasting time. Like maybe using my old 8 track reel to reel as a physical multi track lo-fi plugin or boards of Canada style tape synth. With real varispeed, wow and flutter and hiss. Lots of hiss. Just for fun.

Finally gotten around to coming back to this. After a long time playing with them all, phase cancelling with the original as well as each other, and also doing the same with MetricAB isolating ranges (yeah, I got down in them there weeds ) I have answers.

Pure is very much like FAST with all of the advanced stuff being on to different extents, and Smart is very much like FAST with all of the advanced stuff being off. In terms of cancellation FAST could get closer to each than they could each other.

My opinion on FAST being most transparent has changed - Weiss, Smart and Oxford came out best in null tests with the original, and in that order.

It is the constant over-posting of one person that makes it hard to stomach. Pity for this thread, really.
