Kotelnikov tries to get the job done traditionally, without "cheating". No lookahead.

I never liked the sound of lookahead control very much.
FYI, lookahead is a bit more than just a delay, it also asks for a specialized smoothing approach that makes sure the lookahead doesn't attack too soon, and in particular, doesn't release too early either.
Have you tried Nova GE instead? I has lookahead and very detailed control, including upward compression, a SC band different from the controlled band, and whatever.
Limiter 6 GE's HF limiter's "REL mode" also makes a nice alternative choice vs classic de-essers.
FYI, we're working a fat version of Kotelnikov which will likely satisfy more of your demands, and possibly more. But this is no option for short or mid term, there's still a lot of work to do.
