lol, that's what you pay me for!

So occasionally this and SlickEQ GE fatally crash FL Studio for me. Feels like it happens when you close/minimise the plugin after switching from Precise to Insane processing. I think there's a brief spike in CPU and if you close/minimise the plugin during that time... poof, bye DAW.

It means I have to be VERY careful with using these plugins and always remind myself to save often. I fear I will start avoiding them, which would be a shame because these are 2 of the best digital EQs available - cleaner than Pro-Q.

What plugin format and OS did you use? (was it the latest version of SlickEq M?)

I was wondering...
If I let the EQ Gain button "ON" and I bounce the track, is the EQ Gain bypassed during bouncing?
OR should I pay attention to click again on EQ Gain to make sure it is "OFF" before bouncing?

It renders as is. No need to touch it when rendering.

EQ GAIN is internally offsetting of the output gain, not more, not less.

Has anyone else had a problem with Slick EQ M, where you can no longer just type, for example '3' and set the frequency to 3k?
When i updated i lost that ability..plus the font looks a bit off.

I always had to type: 3000 to get 3k and that still works.

If the operator type a number < the lowest frequency this parameter can represent (say, 10Hz), we can assume that he meant to use this number x1000.

But as Vlad mentioned, it produced a problem at some point (which I also fail to remember lol).

I've been using SlickEQ M & Nova GE quite a bit after I bought them and I have to say I simply love both of these plugins. These days there is hardly any projects that I am having which would not use these plugins in a way or another. Thank you TDL for coming up with such an awesome tools for such a fair and competitive prices. It's also worth mentioning that the copy protetion method that is being used is all of your plugins is very fair for the customers, and it's very relevant for me whenever I buy plugins.

After my time with SlickEQ M & Nova GE, I believe that I may have come up with a few workflow improving FR's for both of them. I humbly ask the developers to consider them because IMO they would make help the user to achieve the goal faster and in a more pleasant way:

1. Option to lock both "from" and "to" knobs on the smart operations page so they don't get reset each time the re-learn button is pressed. Maybe a simple lock button between these parameters would do?

Why would it be useful? Well, I just edited hundreds of audioloops and all of them were being in the same frequency range and they needed a little bit of finetuning. I was frequency matching these loops to a carefully chosen reference curve while at the same time removing resonances to make the sound smoother. I did this by using a combination of both SlickEQ M and Nova GE. Each time I capture a new input profile from a loop, which happens at quite rapid rate, both "from" and "to" knobs will reset themselves. This means that for each loop I am working with, I have readjust 4 knobs because they have been reset to a frequency range which is not very useful to me. Missing this feature didn't bother me at first, but after working on hundreds of loops it sure became frustrating. I'd love if I could just click re-learn and just adjust the range knob, and BAM... done! I am a little bit over the halfway now with this project, but man do I wish this feature was there right now.

2. Arrow buttons to give the user an easier way to browse and try out different target profiles. This should work using last references or even with a folder full of audio files. I simply love the matching features of EQ M and Nova GE this feature would make it even more awesome. I don't see EQ-M just as a tool for mastering, it works wonders for mixing too.

3. Drag and drop for reference file. It would be nice to use my DAW to playback media to find the right one and drag and drop it staight into the plugin so it would use it as a reference file.

Question for Fabien:

The Output control moves in 0.1dB increments. If I automate this control, for example to do a fade out, will it step at 0.1dB increments? Or will it step in 0.1dB increments in realtime, but much mote smooth/higher precision when rendering? Is there a setting to ensure this ("Insane")?

Sometimes doing fades etc are good to do in a plugin, so you can leave your DAW's fader in the same position for overall balancing. I'm just wondering if SlickEQ is ideal for this task.

And I don't really understand your first question about 0.1db render vs realtime.

As far as fading from a plugin, If you are dithering on the final step, you want the dithering to work with the increasingly lower fader level. I believe that is how dither should work, especially if you are noise shaping. So I would still keep the dither following whatever is being used to control the fade.

I was basically asking if the 01.dB resolution increases when rendering. Some plugins do this, like Melda which has realtime and offline Interpolation.

In other words... in realtime, that's fine just work with the 0.1dB resolution - but if I automate the volume between 1dB and 2dB does it "step" in 0.1dB increments x10, or does the resolution increase? Ie: 1.01dB --> 1.02dB --> 1.03dB.

Some plugins will even give you 3 digits and let you you automate within a thousandth of a dB - automating those give you the smoothest result.

Have you actually tried doing that? do you hear the stepping? In my experience most of the plugins that offer a stepped input method are doing it for the GUI knobs, and they comply with whatever fractional value an automation send them.

I'd use a simple (stock when available) plugin for all gain-related tasks. Faster to go to it for adjustments on every track instead of guessing on track x on what EQ I used the trim option for gain...

I just tried it in Cubase. There do seem to be small .1 dB steps in my rendered, automated audio with the output trim on Slick EQ M.

However, my opinion is that no one will be able to hear this, so I wouldn't worry about it. Or an even simpler solution, use a different plugin or technique for volume automation.

Just my take on it, but yes, there do seem to be tiny steps. It's a stepped control, seems like.

Fair point and good advice - and I mostly do that it's just... SlickEQ M is already on that channel and it isn't going anywhere - so I thought I'd automate it's input rather than adding another plugin. But only if the fade is smooth and not stepped at 0.1dB.

Admittedly even 0.1dB steps will still sound smooth to the average ear.

Wow, this is such a great EQ. Easy to turn a mediocre mix into a superb master with it even for a bedroom audio engineer like myself.

I noticed AU plugin latency is not correctly report to the DAW, I'm using Live 10, Catalina.

AU plugin, Live mode, load with 1708 samples delay, making the track sound earlier, makes it unusable on individual tracks.

VST plugin, Live mode, load with 0 samples delay, it works fine.

In the Smart OPS, there is a REFERENCE menu that activates after analysis.

Inside that Reference menu are several option [File, Pink, etc]

My question ... I have some special Ref Audio files that I use from time to time.

I would like to have them available, directly selectable in the Reference section.

Currently I have to hunt through disk Directories to locate and load that file.

How [or is] there a way to directly [simplify] access to those Ref files ?

Click the REFERENCE "save" button, and activate the "Auto0matically cache analysed audio files" option.

Now, create a reference from file (click the REFERENCE area left of the save button).

The last reference should then appear in all instances (and persist).
