Sounds awesome!!. Your posts and a few other guys in this amazing thread have me right on the verge of going for the One18's and Amp500. Forty years old tomorrow so I might just have to.

priko, i see your actually using PSI yourself... Why do you advise the amphion? Are you planning to change over in the future? What would the amphions give me what the PMCs won't? I feel the PMC is the better overall monitor or am i mistaking? I already have an avocet so it's a bit a pitty that i will need to pay for de DA onboard the PMC! Also i'm tired of have so many pairs in the studio... I want one pair that i can really trust! Currently i'm on Yamaha hs80 + sub which i will keep to play loud for customers! (Don't know if i will need them though since the PMC can go really loud!

I have both and work with both. I mostly use Two18 as near fields as the Geithain 944 do provide many of the same aspects as the bigger RL801 while the Two18 provides a different angle on things and commodates the mains very good.

I don´t blame you for asking but I have been an engineer for over 20 years and I assure you.. I do not have the time to use a pair of speakers for the sake of ''hype''.
I have tried to kindly share my monitor tests on this forum and backed up everything I found out with objective measurments, mix results and more. I hope that is enough to not question my credibility.

Do try different models in your space first! You may fall in love with one15 or one of the two series models....... time to call KMR me thinks.

Yeah you really have to try them in your own space.
I tried one18, two18 and two15, I thought I would end up with the two18 because this is the most expensive one so I thought it would be the best one but for me the two15 beat them so that's what I bought.

I am testing Two18s + Amp500 + cables against my B&W801s....will report later!

So can i make the conclusion that for you the amphions are the best nearfields of them all (the ones you reviewed)
Also do you experience any trouble with getting the reverb and delays right on the amphions? I had the feeling that i couldn't hear them so clearly then on the PMCs. Might be a learning curve to it..?

Wow, 85 pages. I start reading now. I plan to buy the one 15. Can someone summarize the amp options for these?

I have Hypex for my B&W 801 matrix in the other room and I have an old Adcom. Would the Adcom do the trick or are the One 15s very picky in amp choice like other passive speakers?

I just tested the Amp500 and the Rotel with the Two18...their timbre is very similar but with the Amphions the Amp500 is much more powerful and dynamic - a better unit overall.
Let's see how it behaves with the 801s!

AFAIK Karloff70 and some others use adcom, modded by jim williams though.
Throughout this thread, they talk plenty about how that combo sounds. They seem to be happy.

Again, thank you endlessly for all the work you've done. Curious - which of the atc models did you demo? And what were your thoughts on them vs the amphions?

One channel of my Bryston 4bst went out this morning...so I hooked up my Adcom 555..and I think I like it better. The Bryston sounds a little edgy/harsh to me in the upper mids in comparison. The bottom is definitely tighter on the 4b though. Going to send the Bryston off for repair, but I think I'm going to move to another amp. Has anybody compared a modded Adcom amp with the Amphion 500 amp? Mine is not modded yet but I'm going to have it done soon.

So here's my listening impression of the Two18 speakers + Amp500 package vs my 801s + Rotel.
Tonally the Amphions are very similar to my B&W, if not identical!
Unfortunately I don’t feel they possess the same imaging depth and especially reverbs are less apparent - soundstage is much more tridimensional on the B&W.
On the other side, they are very fast and punchy - sort of NS10 really - and obviously for mixing this is a plus.
The Amp500 is very powerful, more muscular than my Rotel, but tonally very similar - as the Amphions are to the B&W so to speak.
I've yet to start working on the Amphions, but while I am sure they are excellent mixing tools, I was hoping they could replace my 801 + NS10 for both mastering and mixing duties...not sure about it.
Perhaps the Base25 adds some magic that the Two18 alone don’t possess…I don't know, but the total cost would be very high indeed.

PS For those who may wonder, the Two18 and Two15 are nothing alike. The fifteens are much more limited in all areas and tonally I didn't like them as much.

how far away are you from the 801's normally and how far are you from the amphion?

I placed the Two18 in the exact same spot my 801 usually sit: 2mt away.

I let the speakers run for two solid days before doing critical listening.
For the record, the Two15 owner who heard my 801 was impressed by their depth just as I am!

Id say, try to run the amp and speakers for another two days. 50 hours is still a bit early.

could you explain more in depth the difference between the 801 and two18? bass, mid, high, transient response, details... if you can.

For me the burn in time was around two weeks give or take. It wasnt continuous though.

so you prefer the amp500 for your B&Ws? the amp is reasonably priced in audiophile terms and i am looking for a new amp to drive 805Ss. i like the B&W timbre. it has an englishness! i'm looking for a neutral amp with plenty of power hence my questions. i enjoy mixing on my monitors albeit for personal enjoyment. i probably dwell too much on the musical experience rather than work-flow. plus i haven't felt the need to change them in ten years. just the amp for something more powerful.

Also - the magic of the Amphions is how they work as "tools".

I find simply listening to music on them will never reveal their real purpose. Once you've done work on them, and see how fast and easy it is to get mixed/masters that translate is when the lightbulb will go off.

Or try this - master a song on the B&W - how does it sound on the Amphions? Now flip... I would wager money that (once you know the Amphions) the master you do on the Amphions will sound better on the B&Ws than the master you had done on the B&W's in the first place.

It's a strange experience the first time it happens... But a delightful one at that! Anyway that's been my experience with Amphions and pretty much any other brand of speaker.

My studio partner and I had this exact experience. EQ'd a kick drum to sound best on his MM27's, then EQ'd it to sound best on the Two18's. The Kick EQ'd on the Two 18's sounded better on both systems.

Yes especially with the One18 vs the One15, and even more so once you add the Baseone.

I could say bass trapping is essential at that point. Early Reflection absorption or deflection should also be essential for anyone wanting to hear the monitor as it was designed to be heard.

I feel the 15s give you all the Amphion magic you need to get great sounding mixes. The 18s definitely give you 'more', but in my case I prefer the direct sounding 15 series accompanied by a big detailed full range monitor. This could change in time, but right now Ive got a formula that is working very well using the One15 in conjunction with the BF MM27gen2. The more I work them together, the more I see the how well they compliment each other.

The Amphion Two18+Baseone will never be a BF (how could it with BF's 3.5-way driver setup with DSP crossovers sending discrete signals to each of the 4 amps per speaker?), and the BF will never be a Amphion (not even if they added Amphion models like they did NS10 + mix cube). The Amphion has this musical 'gel' factor that the BF couldn't model its way into. Maybes its the passive x-over design, who knows, but it works, and even better than my trust NS10s work. Far better.

These two monitors sound so different to one another in a properly treated room (with or without Trinnov), that I am surprised more people haven't commented on this. Surely there are more Amphion + BF users out there? Roundbadge, are you still using both?

I definitely prefer the Amp500 on my 801.
I had the 805S for a while and did some testing, ended up keeping the 801 as they led me to the exact same result but with a more complete experience - the 805S are way to scooped in the mids for me.
IMPORTANT: I recently tested a Classe amp on my 801...well it's a different class! I couldn't recognize my 801 anymore, they sounded incredible! So in case I decide to keep I will certainly look for a Classe amp.
