No no, that’s definitely an option, and I was thinking of using my current controller in the same way, but i’m not sure if I want the clutter on the desk. At least there’s several options I can choose from, thanks to you and others in this thread.

Less bass reinforcement.

Well you would alter their position to the front wall ( via the app) to ‘free space’ which increases their bass output to compensate for the lessening of wall reinforcement.

You can do that yes, but my experience was the effect of the wall is greater than the onboard eq compensation available.

I agree, if you can then within 60cm from the front wall is ideal, in domestic applications this often sits well with ‘partners’ who get their room back.

I’ve settled on getting the 8c’s, but I have a couple of additional questions.

I have Sonarworks and was curious if there’s any advantage/disadvantages to using that vs. the stock REW integration/app. Also, I turn off Sonarworks when tracking for reduced latency and wanted to know if similar action was necessary for the built in DSP on the 8c’s.

I have GIK polyfusers on my front wall because I also record in the same space - would this complicate the measurements when calibrating the room correction, and would I still measure to the wall behind the diffuser, or would I measure from where the diffuser starts? I also have large soffit traps next to my speakers (pics attached for reference).

Best is to leave Sonarworks out and just use the built in filter correction that you calibrate with REW. There is some mild DSP anyway (bass timing, phase synchronisation in the cross-over area), so you'd better make sure the whole thing is done only once. If you want you can turn off the 8c's DSP with their low latency mode. For tracking the sound will still be more than adequate.

You measure from your listening position into your viewing direction (as per the user manual), whatever the outfits of the walls are. Bass traps behind your 8c's sometimes can be detrimental for the punch of the lows, but as long as you make all internal settings correctly and you calibrate as meant to be done there is usually little problem with any aspect of the room. 8c's have this extreme ability to adapt them to the room, which is one of their major fortes.

I still have a bit to learn regarding this future setup, but i’m very excited at the prospect of swapping out the Footprints eventually. The 01’s aren’t bad speakers, but their limitations become more profound the more I use them.

I was also thinking of eventually selling my Auratones (used to set levels) and Mackies (they function as a quick multimedia speaker-level check) for a pair of Amphion One15’s or ATC SC20’s. I’ve heard both and I think in theory they would compliment the 8c’s well. Does anyone else use one of these combinations, have secondary pairs they love paired with the 8c’s, or do you find the 8c’s are all you need? I know this is all very personal and room-dependent, but it’s Gearslutz

I used to work with four pairs of monitors, including ATC SCM100A, original Auratones, AcusticLab Bolero Grande, and Audio Physic Virgo II. Each of them gave me a specific "window" on the sound, and I switched a lot between them. They have now been fully replaced by a pair of 8c's and the Auratones. That's a lot less clutter, and more focus. The 8c's cover all those "windows" (while the Auratones are what they are).

The 8c "translate" better than anything I have worked on in the last 40 years, including the ATCs.

Disclaimer: I am the Swiss distributor for Dutch & Dutch, but I only distribute equipment I am fully convinced of. The 8c definitely belongs here. I don't use them because I distribute them, I distribute them because I use them and am convinced of their performance.

Perhaps I’ll just keep the Auratones and spend that money elsewhere. I have been drooling over the Carnaby He2 and Soyuz Lakeside…
