do you feel the Two18s are nessesary with the sub system. I am curious if the one 18s would be fine ? is there much difference in context with the base25

It's between Genelec 8351a, One18 and Two15 for me.

I liked One18 but looking for a bit more low end, so am considering the Two15s. Strangely, though, the One18 are doing 45Hz and Two15 44Hz on paper - a marginal difference! In fact, comparing the freq response on Amphion's website, the One18 graph drops off at a lower freq than Two15. I am probably missing something here? Does the One18 produce more low freq?

Are you still using the Trinnov with the Two18+baseone25? If so are you letting it do much work down low?

There is no doubt about the Two18 beeing the company´s flagship speaker. The internals are super high end and consists of ''no compromise'' components. The resolution, response and overall wibe you get from the Two18 overcomes all the other speakers in my opinion. Its definately not just about the extended frequency range.

To my ears the One18 is the speaker in the range that comes closest to the response of the Two18. The difference do get narrowed down with the BaseOne25 system engaged but there is still no doubt which speaker your listening to.

That said.. Besides the Two18 the One18 with the BaseOne25 superceed´s any nearfield system I have tested and provides a tremendous control in all areas in recording, mix and mastering. The BaseOne25 actually upgrades the One18 to a new level so I would not hesitate to go for this setup if the budget don´t allow the Two18 combination.

The integration of the BaseOne25 / Two18 did not need any correction in my room. The subsystem is so easy to integrate and easily compensated for the 5db dip I usually experience around 50-60 hz. No additional correction was needed !
However.. I have not ever seen a room that did not benefit from the Trinnov correction and it could probably improve the response even further in my room also. Its just not needed as the translation is stunning as is.

What about Two15s + BassOne25 please vs One18s + BassOne25 system -- if considering Two15s vs One18 and then looking to add BaseOne25 later? While I believe you favored the One18 vs the Two15 as a standalone near field monitor (if I remember correctly, and I apologize if I do not), do you hear the One18 as superior to the Two15 in conjunction with the BaseOne25 system? Or does the tightness of the Two15s blended with the extension of the BassOne25 system result in a superior total system to One18s + BassOne25s to your ears and/or testing equipment? Thank you!

Sounds to me you might be asking the man a taste question now that if he answers it may not at all be in line with your own taste.......just sayin.....and also room related.

Interesting, I also have a 5db dip at around 65 hz which is not due to my room but most likely the speakers...

Sure, it's a trade show floor...but the booth will be treated with ZR Acoustics panels by Hanson Hsu from Delta H Designs, so that should help a bunch.

Personal perception, preference and taste are major contributing factors with just about every speaker and most everything having to do with music and it's recording and production, ..so there's nothing new there.

If asking a question concerning personal taste is any way out of line, or a questionable conduct, you might as well shut down gearslutz.

Perhaps however a question asking for some attributes or such would be more fruitful though, as opposed to 'which is superior', which is a personal one word answer job.

The speakers are flat so I can almost say for sure its your room causing the dip. A 300z wavelength is 1.7 meter , a 50z wavelength is 5meter. If you do not have one or more really big basstraps to absorb this energy you will most likely have anomalies in the frequency response in this area. 5db is actually mastering grade performance from a room and you should be really happy. If you look at my plots earlier in this thread and see the ''very expensive hifi'' measuring, you will find 35db or so anomaly in the response which is actually fairly common and why many peoples mix dont translate. ( I know.. God help us ) . So... don´t blame the speakers.

Regarding the components. The head of Amphion Anssi Hyvönen visited me in Norway and explained this in detail along with personally demonstrating the early prototype of BaseOne25. I have not seen inside the speakers myself but have no reason to doubt his word. Hearing the difference is also answer enough for me.

5db sounds quite a lot to me.

I appreciate your sentiment and thought about supplying my room dimensions, which for me are only in the 16' x 19' range, but thought I would leave fairly open ended given it is unlikely I am the only person considering this topic, as for many of us, such purchased would require multiple stages to complete.

One thing about Audiovisjon is he has proven very thoughtful at answering a great number of questions in his amazing thread, many of which have included both his personal tastes as well as have included some measurements and/or comment(s) regarding effective sonic integration as perceived and/or related to success of mix translation to other systems.

I think it is a reasonable question to ask with wide latitude to somebody so knowledgable, and I would be grateful if he gave his thoughts and perhaps if they would vary by room size, but I do appreciate that not everyone would agree with whatever he or anyone else on this site says about anything -- and that results would vary by room.

I will leave Audiovisjon with the decision to answer my humble request or not. But happy 40th to him either way!

strengths : build quality ; these are the most robust speakers I ever did see.....

weaknesses : price I'm sure you could get equally good sound at a fraction the price. (17000 pounds if I remember rightly )

Yeah I think it was just the dip; bass is important in edm. It was the room not the sspeakers the genelec had the same dip in that room. Check out resolution magazines measurements of atc and others here :

If I were you I'd look at the genelec 8351 and shhh hh. ... maybe the Amphions (; harbeth 30 pro might be nice too....

I got a nice comment yesterday on the translation from a producer friend. My room is untreated, but a very weird shape. He played the track in the car and smiled. One try, one mix....yes! Just the way I like it.

Adding to the hype, these are the best monitors I have ever used. Taking away from the hype, that's not saying much.

One 18's with long term plans for the base 25. We'll see...

Listened to the One18s & Two18s through the Amphion 500 amp today via the great guys at KMR in London.

First impressions; Impressed.
Very natural sounding and to my ears mid forward focused in a good way.

We were comparing MM27 Gen2s with them and the impression on my ears was the MM27s sounded concave (smiley curve) and the Amphions sounded convex.

I personally preferred the Two18s because they sounded considerably fuller than the One18s. I can see why some people could and do only need a pair of Two18s.

My personal situation situation is that I've recently picked up a Bryston 4B SST2 amp to power my trusty NS10s and they have seriously never sounded better (that amp is something else). Accordingly, as good as the Amphions are I don't personally feel I need to get them to do the job the NS10s do for me.

Having said that I could hear instantly why the Amphions are such great mix tools.

As an aside they've currently got a set of Barefoot MM12s on demo and they are ....shall I say special, wow ;-)

He better answare this himself, but I was there just 2 weeks ago, and I could only see the 944 (as nearfields) and the 801 mains.

i'm doubting between PMC twotwo8 and amphion two18 + 500amp + cables heard them both but seperatly... Love them both! But i think that i could hear reverb and delay more clearly on the PMC's (seeing deeper)! While amphions have a bit more midrange clarity! My room is 4.2m on 6.3m ans 2.4m high. Will the amphions fit better cause they are supposed to be less affected by room acoustics. I'm afraid i will make my mixes to wet on the amphions... Anyone here with experience with both? What would be your choice and why?

After auditioning other speaker and finding nothing better, I finally kept my one18!
couldnt be happier tbh especially after trying other speakers. my search is over for a good while.

I woord with Amphion two 18 + Abacus 60_120D amp, I love this set up, for your case, I would advice this set up but with a additional near field monitor set. I use the Abacus Cbox 2 as near fields the combo with amphion is top (while switching between both)
Two different presentation of the sound in your room are really useful

so it's was a true assessment that the amphions are less good in showing the tails!?
