Anyone who has experience in using ATC SCM25a's as LCR? I have a pair of SCM25a's As L-R, and are looking to add a matching center channel. Will a left or right version work for this? I'm a little worried since the acoustic center is the midrange driver, and that means placing the center SCM25 speaker slightly to the left or right. Not good for OCD, and maybe not ideal for speaker placement?

I’m in a similar boat as I have Barefoot MM45’s and thinking of moving to Atmos. They suggested flipping the speaker so the tweeter is up and woofer is down for the center one. You can probably do the same thing with the ATC, I would shoot them an email and make sure that’s ok.

I’d suggest to place the scm25 as intended, also as a center channel.. exactly as your LR ones.
think of it like a 2way and put the tweeter/midrange in the center, where it belongs.

It mightlook a little bit odd..(at the beginning, but you get used to it..)

Anyway I’d not worry about the looks.
You will mix with your ears anyway..
And might be a good opportunity to exercise some anti-ocd behaviour..

I’d make sure the horizontal (and vertical) characteristics of the loudspeaker are correct. This is what really matters, as I’m sure you know.

If you mix for video you might think to have a cinema screen in front of them.. that will solve your visual “issues”..

But you could always ask @ Brad Lunde (Transaudio) or ATC..
I imagine they’ll say the same thing, but what do I know…?!

Thank's for your comments and advice. Support at ATC says the same as you guys. I've used an SCM25a as center channel for a few days now. The slight physical offset took only half a day to get used to

Hello! Please help me with professional answers to these questions...
I am interested in:
1 - How does the woofer affect the room and the stereo picture as a whole, which is structurally located in this monitor "from the outside"? (that is, the tweeter and midrange frequencies should be located closer to the center of the room.
2 - is it possible to swap ATC SCM25A PRO mkii/mki? That is, put the left monitor on the Right - and put the right one on the Left - so that the tweeters EXPAND the stereo picture (as is done on monitors of some other companies - for example, Neumann K310)
3 - the ATC SCM25A PRO mkii has one phase inverter port. It is NOT located standardly (not at the back, and not at the front) - it is located on the extreme side - which looks at the side wall of the studio. Tell me HOW does this phase inverter port affect the room? Does it "buzz" a lot, for example? What frequencies does it radiates.
4 - I saw in a video advertisement that the ATC SCM25A PRO mkii comes with a rubber cylindrical FOAM - which can be used to muffle this side bass reflex port. Tell me - Who uses this Foam/Plug? Does it reduce the "Hum" coming out of this port? Does it improve the Low Frequencies in a "Closed" case with this plug?
5 - Why is the ATC SCM25A PRO mkii so big in Weight and size? Does it have thick MDF walls? Huge analog amplifiers inside?

his quite a list of questions that are far too detailed to answer here.
1) How will a side port affect the room? Don't know, depends on the room. Bass is generally omni.
2) Mk1 and MK2 sound different due to different tweeter- only 3500Hz and up. Best guidance is all speakers should be the same/sound the same.
3)The port is used below 85Hz to lift low end 1 to 1 1/2 dB and provide stability for the LF driver.
4) Bass is omni so being located on the side doesnt affect imaging. Who uses the foam port plug? Anyone with too much bass in their room or wants the 25s to act like sealed cabinets with higher roll off frequency.
5)Yes it is heavy due to very heavy drivers, heavy box construction and large linear power supply for the Class A/B amplifiers.
