Well yeah, that’s the whole idea behind everyone discussing monitors at a specific price point. Presumably everyone is getting the best monitors they can afford. And obviously it’s chill to make suggestions, but like I personally wouldn’t come into a thread on KH310s and be like “yeah but have you heard Dutch&Dutch or Kii ?? If you want to REALLLY make informed decisions you should hear what’s actually there” you know what I mean? I’m sure the OP understands that $20k+ speakers are going to be better, but it doesn’t really benefit the conversation at the prescribed price point.

Your source talks to the speakers which talk to the room for you; the room speaks to your ears which talk to your perception for you.

So the room is the medium that is most important and the most difficult to control/modify/understand.

Not gonna lie, this is a substantial upgrade for me and the 20s alone are kinda the limit of what I can afford. Adding another 2 grand for sound anchors isn't really possible at the same time... I could see myself going for the ADJ1 in a year or so if they are truly the best solution, but I'll need a more modest option in the meantime.

I guess you could call my set-up a home hi-fi/home studio hybrid. I have a minimal setup where I do mostly ITB work, so I don't have a ton of outboard gear or a mixing console, just a small desk with high quality converters and monitoring in a well treated listening room.

Anyway sorry to hijack this thread... tho I guess it is somewhat relevant as I'm selling my Neumann monitors to get the ATCs

That said, if you want them to look good, they don't do that.

Also - as long as stands are at the right level and are reasonably inert, they won't sound particularly different from one another.

Thanks for the response. I ended up purchasing the scm25a mk2 after first trying the kh310 which was too veiled or cloudy up top. This is all in a treated room. While the 310 bass extended lower, it still seemed like the clarity or quality of the atc bass was still better. Really strange. For the sake of others, is the update on the 310 just the ability to use dsp?

The ATC are so revealing but not fatiguing in my room. What is amazing is when you hit play and you immediately hear an issue such ass harsh esses or a build up at 180hz in a vocal for example. It allows you to go through a track in an orderly fashion. Yesterday, I made a few 1.5db boosts and cuts on the vocal where in the past it would take 3-4db which you end up realizing the next day as being over the top. I am more than happy tbh. Enjoy yours!

ATC are clever …. 80% of mix issues, critical balance and all the really important information to the human ear lay in the mids.

The ATC mid driver is an absolutely brilliant piece of traditional engineering to provide X Ray vision into this critical band of the audio spectrum.

I’m currently doing long days every day on an album and the 25’s are the least fatiguing monitors I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning.

Best studio purchase I’ve ever made in 40+ years of buying recording equipment.

I’ve already had the, “whoa that sound is in this song” moment, like many people have described. It’s the dynamics on certain crescendos in music that really gets me about this monitor. Wide image and detail is all true, but it’s the dynamics that were a surprise.
