Notice how when its a fully blind test and you can't rely on your biases.....all of the 'analog one has bigger, brighter, deeper, fuller, classier sound with more clarity, width and oomph' comments are nowhere to be seen.

I just came from the slate La2a comparison where there was a video (so one could see which was which) and it is laden with all those comments.
People seem so confident that
A. Analog is always better on everything
B. They could tell which one is analog 100% of the time.

A test like this reveals
A. All processors are different and thus, some will sound better on some sources than others. Maybe a brighter comp will sound better on a dull mix etc.

B. Our ears and tastes are wildly different. As with speakers, one persons perfection is another persons 'bright and harsh'

C. It can be difficult to tell them apart sometimes.

I think it is a great idea to keep the results private! If they were made public, the thread would gain 10 pages overnight of people saying
'I knew X was analog all along, I just didn't post cos it was so obvious' lol

They're all quite good and similar.

D sounds best to my ears for its nice top end, and E seems to mush the snare transients a little.

That thread has been closed, but after doing the shootout I PMed the author of these threads with my observations and requested the results for comparison, but he must be busy at the moment. I would appreciate it if someone has those results and can PM them so I can move on with my life.

I also want to do the more current shootouts that he has created, but would like to have have a base for comparison. Appreciative!

I am so curious to see how consistent I am from the last test.
I feel B, C, D, H, K were my favorites. With C doing best with the tone, especially the lows and a tie with H and K on compression action.

Wow, the small margin of all these shootouts, seems to come to that same conclusion. That the the differences, really is a matter of taste and not about how close to the real thing.

Yes mos def. I’ve decided to pick up a Wesaudio Dione this week! I haven’t been this excited since my Neve 5060 showed up on my doorstep.

Very interested peace also, that Wesaudio. With the Neve centerpiece... It sounds like you are on a journey back into a forgotten would of analog motivation and pure fun and love for mixing and music making... If that makes sense, I'm not a native speaker. But I see where you are going and I miss that workflow and I will probably be doing something similar. I kinda grown some sort of a plugin/DAW fatigue over the last few years... Heh!

I just stumbled on that thread too - and I'm disappointed the thread was closed without revealing what was what. At least add some kind of "SPOILER ALERT" reveal post at the end before closing! People will be finding that thread for decades to come, when the Original Poster may be long gone.

Well, I hope I will be around for at least three more decades and not revealing results is/was the main point. You know how it goes, spoilert alert written in capitals will make everyone read further. That said, the thread wasn't closed by me, but the mods. And really, no one will care for decade old plugins in the future. ;-)

I love these threads!! The differences are hardly night and day between these.

My preferences were:

1. E which I think is the DMG
2. H which I think is the Smart
3. K which I think is the SSL

Now I'm ready to be embarrassed (in private) - please DM results!
