I think they were just getting frustrated with all the DB25s. But, I don’t know why they didn’t see the XLR outs. Maybe they just wanted something different and wanted to vent. It is such a fantastic and extremely versatile box, that it sure was a shame to give up on it so quickly.

I found it odd that guy a few posts earlier would spend that kind of money without understanding what is was, how it would work and not even bothered to look at the manual to see how it could make him sound better.

As he replaced it with a premium item, I assume his father's business is doing well.

SSL Xpanda? I always thought they were a myth.

They must have built about 10 of them as they are no where to be seen.

I remember at the time thinking, wow that's a lot of SSL desk for not a lot of cash. (Desk + Panda)

I was saddened when I tried the 6 and Big 6 which were not in the same class, but hey I guess a lot cheaper.

Now we wait for the 25 year anniversary editions, which will be made from Gold and very, very expensive.

I saw an X-Panda pop on reverb for <$3k about 5 years ago but it got snatched up immediately.

How do you use the stereo channels on your x panda? What’s your typical workflow?

Almost exclusively for stereo effects.

This is something I just learned the other day. The headphone amp is great on this unit, but I can;t do a mono check unless I go through my monitor controller (Drawmer MC2.1). Also, the flowchart posted above shows that the mono switch is after the HP so it makes sense.

Lastly, is there a way to check which dBu setting the X-Desk is currently set in? The manual shows how to switch between 24 and 18 dBu, however I purchased this second-hand so I don't know which setting it's currently in.

I believe it's internal dip switches.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the manual says it switches by pressing the buttons. See Page 8 of the X-Desk manual.

On the X-Panda, dip switch 1 in the off (down) position is 0 dbfs= 24 dBu.

Sorry, but I don't know the answer on telling the X-Desk settings your's is set at. Perhaps try switching and run a test tone through it and see how the meters change.

But, you are correct about the following:

There are two user selectable options available on powering up of the X-Desk.
Holding down the following buttons whilst switching on power will put the X-Desk in the following operating states:

T/B (Talkback) Toggles the Talkback between Latching or Momentary iJack, EXT and MIX Switches together alters the meter scaling between:

0 dbfs= 18 dBu or
0 dbfs= 24 dBu
