I would like to inform you that I am stucked completely trying to fix MIDI Slave sync issue on the M with USB MIDI connection. It is looks more and more like kinda misuse of hardware on the Host MCU, due to some wrong tech decision. The MIDI Slave sync on the DIN MIDI IS fixed.

Unfortunately, the USB MIDI sync could be potentially unfixable, or efforts to fix it will be too expensive timely.

Is it critical for you if I release the FW 1.10 without fixing USB Slave MIDI Sync? I would like to release it before the NY to close some tasks of this 2023 year.

Rest looks almost good including fixed performance issues.

If it looks like it will be a timeline of a few/several months to fix the USB issue then I would say release now. And then put out another revision once the USB issue is fixed.

For me the USB Sync is not that critical. Would be cool to fix that later if possible, but I vote for release before New Year.
Just would like to add that I am really grateful for your effort.

Unless it's not really fixable, of course.

Because it seems/feels like the developer is running into some issues based on hardware limitations.

Analog 5 pole DIN midi, at least, is a good fix! We can be productive with a SOLUTION and an answer..

I would tell to who is complain about no development: did u never buy any Polyend play or tracker? Sync and crash and sample bugs problems never fixed since age (developing new toys instead) and no way to have a constructive dialog with developers like here with Vladi! I do love this thread is better then any wiki crap!

Reading this thread got me on the road to getting a Waldorf M, and I am quite happy I did. Still playing around trying to figure out interesting ways to apply breath control.

But then the USB issue is not relevant to my workflow, so others may have different needs.

here is DSP 1.10 (DSP only) FW update to the M (release candidate). It was not tested by Waldorf Music yet, only by me.

It is addressing performance issues mostly (the Kimzim's case, for example.) and compatible with Host FW 1.09.
So if you the one , who need performance bug fix - you can update the DSP to 1.10.

What is fixed there :

- general performance optimizations were made:

- solved the performance issues with the DigiVCF in classic mode, if it is combined with Sin-shaped LFOs and Glide;

- solved interpolation bug with transitions in the loop mode:

- solved OSC1 quality degradation if transition is enabled:

What is NOT fixed here :

- obviously, everything related to UI / MIDI Sync as it is processed on the host MCU side. The Host FW 1.10 update will follow later - need to run more tests!

What is not considered as a bug :

- once again. LFO1 in sync (i.e. "mono" or "part" mode) is STILL DEPENDENT OF LFO1 EG. This lead to constant misunderstanding, but it is matter of legacy behavior of MW1. So, to use it as you desire just increase LFO1 EG DECAY to 127.

I am understand, that it is confusing a lot - but it is a Waldorf Microwave 1 legacy, which I prefer do not touch. Thank you for understanding.

I had a Tracker, used it to test Multimode Setup of the M a lot.
Well, I know the Piotr. We discussed with him a Tracker Issues once. Some bugs there are also related to the hardware issues, unfortunately, as with USB MIDI timings at M...

But development of new stuff is OK, is not it? Sometimes you have to do this to continue run your business. Sometimes to provide Mk2.

p.s. I also developing new synth would accumulate there all experience from developing and supporting of the M

First of all: thanks a lot for your open communication. I don't think usb midi sync is critical at all. If its crucial for a user there's a solution: use DIN. For me its a pity, but nothing more than that. Keep up the great work and enjoy xmas with your family!

Is there any chance of the MTS microtuning capabilities that had been mentioned? The other question I have is about some of the multi mode bugginess when user wavetables are implemented. I have found consistently reliable and simple workarounds to the issues I described on the last page, but would be nice if the issues could be resolved.

I do a lot with user wavetables and very extreme sound design, so I could just be pushing the dsp to its breaking point.

I also recall your mentioning you were going to see if it may be possible to have more than the 1st part operate in Modern mode on a multi with the voice expander. Is this looking feasible? Really appreciate all your hard work. The M is in a league of its own sonically

Yes Vladi R&D is the heart of this business tech, but some choise to dont explane the bugs (unlike you do here) and bad communication leading to disasters…play+ :(

My only current option for connecting the M is via usb, so I'd love to see the usb midisync get fixed, if indeed it is possible.

Get a MIDI DIN to USB cable

Had no idea that was a thing - thanks for mentioning. they are only like $15.

The nice thing about having two midi inputs is it allows sequencing from a computer & playing from a controller without having to repatch.

It would be sad to sacrifice but no sync is even sadder.

Appreciate the honesty - although its a bit bizarre considering that Waldorf has several USB synths. Truly hope there is a way to fix - sending positive vibes for a miracle break thru.

Just to clarify, does this mean that the various audio glitches (dsp missing every other frame due to exceeding 100% cpu use) when playing all 8 voices and specific options are enabled are fixed for all known cases? Or just that particular one (lfos and glide)?

Ps. I couldn’t care less about usb midi. If it doesn’t support sync, no problem whatsoever.

I tested it (for 8 voices M) with Reason's Chord machine, enabled to output all 8 notes at one time.

The most of glitches were at attack phase before, due to lot of extra calculations on note onset. The worse case was a simultaneously enabled digiVCF and glide, together with the Sin-shaped LFO. I did resolved this one, IMHO most heavy case, rest should be less calculation-intensively.

I did a test-run for a few hours trying to get the glitches, and, according to the load meter I am always between 95-98% of time slot to calculate 16 Oscillators samples.

But, I still can await that I found a not "most heavy load case" and could be situation worse.

Any chance there could be DX7 style FM one day or is that impossible with the hardware limitations?

I also appreciate your continuing to develop the M. Its a great if slightly flawed beast. I haven't used LFO sync over usb yet but it would be nice to have being a completist. I will probably get a mkii if there ever is one and I would like to see the filters tweaked a bit to give them a bit more character. I thinking like the UDO Super 6 filters they're so magical.

The phase shifting and glitches due to time calculation cpu limit in the 8 voice is affecting also 16 voices expanded M?
What about the resonance bass compensation? Is too hard to implement? No space limit code and so on?
