What's in your digital synth collection??????

The analog synths got listed, as did the analog outboard and digital outboard, but we never listed the digital synths! Let's go!

Hardware, DSP cards, and samplers only please - perhaps someone else can start a native plug-in thread.

Here's mine:
  • Clavia Nord Modular (G1 w/DSP expansion)
  • E-mu UltraProteus
  • E-mu E6400 Ultra (w/64MB, 2 ROMs, HD, and RFX32)
  • E-mu XL-7 (w/XL, TSCY, Vintage Pro, and Protean Drums ROMs)
  • Elektron Machinedrum SPS-1UW Custom
  • Elektron Monomachine SFX-6
  • Korg OASYS PCI (w/Harm Visser Pack and others)
  • Roland JD-990 (w/Vintage exp. and Strings card)
  • Roland S-760 (fully blown)
  • Waldorf MicroWave XTk30
  • Yamaha A5000 (w/128MB and HD)
  • Yamaha FS1R

You?

cheers,
Ian

My toys:

Roland JD-800
Roland JD-990 Yamaha AN1x
Roland EF-303 (if you call that 303 parody a synth - but hey, I like it!)
Korg 05R/W
Waldorf Blofeld
Use Audio Plugiator
L.L. Electronics RozzBox One V1 (plus analog filter)
L.L. Electronics RozzBox One V2 (5-voice, plus valve filter)
Ikaron II
HardSID 4U (I don't even know if the SID is analog or digital...)
Akai S-01 (circuit-bent, so it should qualify as a synth now)
Boss SYB-3
Behringer BSY-600
Dave Smith Instruments Evolver
Korg M1R
For sale: Waldorf Q+

Not sure if they count:
Yamaha P50-m (piano module)
Content EXP-220 (church organ module - simply marvellous!)

Cheers,

Ok then :

PPG Wave 2 ( x2 )
PPG Wave 2.2 ( x2 )
PPG Wave 2.3
PPG EVU

with

Waveterm A
Waveterm B

Waldorf Mean Green Machine

SCI Prophet VS

Simmons SDS-7. Not technically a synth in the traditional sense. But it contains both analog oscillator, digital sample and an analog filter per voice/module.

They are all DCO synths with analogue after the fact..... They should still count, if we can add hybrids, as they are hybrid machines. Unless your talking about the later hybrids that just have an analogue filter, but that would be no fun would it!

I would think that we´re only talking hybrids here.....

A DCO is a digitally controlled analog oscillator.

If one would be splitting hairs, a Prophet-5 would be a "digital synth" since nearly all parameters are digitally controlled. But I don´t think anyone would accept that.

But, whatever works for you, I´m fine with that.

Which makes them analog, given that a DCO is an analog oscillator.

Analog audio signal flow from beginning to end. Digitally-generated CV, but the synthesis is pure analog.

Yep, that's the kind of hybrid in question - some form of digitally-generated spectra, followed by D/A conversion, and then perhaps an analog filter and VCA.

Understood. PCM, phase accumulation, delta-sigma, wavetable interpolation, algorithmic parametric oscillators - they're good in terms of being digital.

DCOs - not so much. They'd be lovely to list on the original analog synth thread though!

Ian

Yamaha VL-1m
Nord Micro Modular
Casio MT-40
Casio VL-1
Akai S612, if that counts
Akai S900, if that counts
Mirage, if that counts

that's pretty all i like so far in terms of "true digital synths" (i know, all my samplers have analog filters, that's why i'm asking, if they count ). i've got quite a lot of strange digital sounding VSTi's that are way more my taste than hardware. i don't know why i've never - exceptions mentioned above - really got to "dig" digital synthesis (e.g. of Nord Lead, Virus or K5000). maybe growing up in the eighties is the answer...

stop! there's one more i like: the Waldorf Pulse is nice, but i know, i wouldn't use it often enough to justify buying one (isn't its filter analog as well?).
