Behringer are not the first to clone the 909 or 808 or 303 etc so I just don’t get what all the complaining is about.

I am happy we soon have this machine at our hands. Opinions of ppl that spend most of their time in forums writing bs are not of my interest or even worth my attention. This machine will be GREAT.

Yeah the pattern to me isn't an issue, and I'm thankful for the demo. But the thing I still want to see showcased on a RD-9 demo is the analogue 909 sound with the air between the drums which I associate with the vintage 909, rather then the compressed sound of digital emulations like the drum boutiques. The demo did sound quiet compressed to me, maybe it's the wave designer?

The wave desiger can totally change the sound going into it. Therefore you can also mess up royally with it

the timing of the video seemed like an obvious diversion to all the negative heat they’ve been taking over the Peter Kirn incident IMO. Better to have user’s argue about gear than politics anyway, so I’m all for it.

I’m definitely gonna grip one of these. Even if its not 1:1 its gonna be a its own workhorse. My only “gripe” is that they didn’t use computer keyboard buttons for the steps like the original. programming steps with those makes you feel like a hacker in a movie. All jokes aside, I always attributed those buttons to programming as part of its charm (especially for jackin tom beats)

So better than most on the rubber keys and the switches used on the steps are your typical, but good, momentary jobbies.

It'd be nice if they used an actual keyboard mechanism in the RD9, but I highly doubt they will, and from what I can see they weren't amazing key switches in the TR-909 to begin with, because the only 1980s keyboard mechs worth a damn are the buckling springs in the Model F and Model M from IBM (of which I own two of the latter).

I've decided to build a Nava Extra9 instead of getting this even tho it's more than twice the price and will probably cost me my sanity I will build it! I'll show myself out

They're bomb, though.

To do it properly you're probably looking at close to, if not exceeding, four figures. It's expensive, for sure. However, if they're a fan of DIY kits then it might absolutely be worth it for them for the fun of building it themselves.

If it's "ugh, I'm sick of waiting, take my money" then I'll raise a brow...

Either TR-8 or TR-8S. TR-8S ACB is very good but RD-8 has a more authentic TR-808 with all the outputs.

It's around 800€ for everything and seems to be 1500€ for a built one so I reckon two weeks of tearing hair of my head is worth it

You're either a master electronics expert, have more free time than anyone here, or you're vastly underestimating how difficult it'll be to build a nava from scratch. It'll take months, not weeks.

Yes it is, I think there is some SMD soldering with the extra9 mod but I've wanted a 909 for 20 something odd years now so if it'll take months to build, it's fine

Depends on how much free time you have. To solder the hundreds of components and make sure it works (and it probably wont first time) all whilst having a full time job and/or dependents is not a few days to a handful of weeks.

It's not the soldering that's the issue... it's the debugging and flipping tables is what puts me off :(
