Just scored a deal on a near-new Subsequent 37, so my Sub37 is about to hit the open market.

Considering selling my Moog Matriarch. Bought during lockdown and made some tunes with it, but don't find myself reaching for it that often. It sounds great (or at least the delay sounds great), but I kind of hate the semi-modular workflow. Lack of presets kills my productivity for picking up and putting down projects. And the second you turn off the delay, it goes from being a lion to a housecat.

Am I crazy? I kinda feel like I'm crazy. I lusted after a Monopoly for years. I feel that I should like this way more than I do, and I may look back and regret selling. This is exactly what folks did in the 80's in the great analog synth purge. But when I play it, I just feel sort of meh...

Yeah, I'd never had a synth without patch recall before. I didn't realize how big of a roadblock it would be for me. Especially once you add patch cables, it becomes a real hassle. Some of the ubermensch on this forum like doing sound design from scratch every session and making music that way, but apparently I don't. Knowing what I know now, I'll pass on the Behr Monopoly as well. You live, you learn.

I've got a good polysynth with plenty of modulation, so I'm not really worried if I get the sound design itch.

Sell the Moog Matriarch and get a Moog Subsequent 37. You still get the Moog DNA, and you will have 256 preset locations plus no hassle of needing to use patch cords!

Since getting a Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave, I am beginning to feel more and more that my otherwise wonderful Waldorf M is superfluous; there is a noticeable difference in tonal quality, but as I learn the 3W I find I am able to easily duplicate some of my favorite M patches on it. The M is up for sale, but I am in no rush.

Would consider replacing it with a desktop analog poly; Prophet 10, or a possible OB-X8 module if they come out with one.

Both the main and headphone outputs would cut out. likely a simple fix but not really a fixer up guy. Might have been a good synth to start with though.

Don't need my Minimoog 2016 Reissue anymore since I got the 2022 edition, which I much prefer the look of. Friend of mine in London wants to buy it, and I want to buy either a Third Wave or Quantum MK2 next, so let's see...

I'm thinking about selling my Snerdly QK-35. It is a beast of a machine, arguably the voice of a generation, but trying to program over 750 parameters from 2 buttons and a 2 digit display is just too much.

I actually did buy an RV during the beginning of COVID. Now the prices have greatly increased, even on used.

One thing people don't tell you about RVs: Constant repairs and maintenace. Make that double if you have a motorhome Class A/B/C.

You aren’t crazy at all. I went through the same thing with my Matriarch. It almost has too much going on and feels an unfocused. But I’m with you, not a huge fan of semi-modular and no presets. For some reason, I can’t shake the MS-20. Maybe it’s because there’s a lot let going on with it? Idk, guess I value simplicity when it comes to hardware.

You aren't crazy. The utility of patch memory can't be understated for those who get use out of it. I had a 10U modular I nuked this year which, despite it's unparalleled sound quality and capabilities, simply destroyed my workflow and inspiration by being unable to retain sounds I had built.

Time has value, and creating sounds takes time, which leads to lost value when you can't save them or otherwise recall them rapidly without fuss (e.g., I have no beef with my SH-101's absence of patch memory because the UI is exceptionally streamlined).

That's a cool little setup. I was going to say you need some drums, but I guess you can get those from the JDXi. You can definitely make a racket with that

The drum sequencer in the JD-Xi is great. A wide selection of all kinds of different drum kits/machines, very easy to create your patterns that can be up to 64 steps long, and unlike other drum machines that give you maybe 8 or so different drum sounds to use at a time, the JD-Xi gives you 26 sounds that can be used simultaneously. A full drum kit plus additional percussion all on one easy to program and edit track!

Also you can apply f/x to each sound. The whole drum part is actually very powerful on that little bugger. If only it had designated mute buttons/faders for the individual drum sounds.

SH101 was my first synth. Had it since new! The simplicity was addictive. I've got more now but still a huge fan of synths like voyager, udo super 6 and prophet 5 where you know exactly where you are in a second.

How does it stack up against the mc 101 ? For drums and that , both 4 trks and a similar price.

The drum side sounds more powerful, independent envelope and filter settings compared to offsets on the mc , only 1 kit fx on the mc too

I haven't worked with the MC-101 but I have watched some videos. It takes a totally different approach than the JD-Xi. In my opinion the JD-Xi takes more of an "old-school" approach in that you sequence each part and use it as it is. It also has a real keyboard to input your performance. The MC-101 takes a more modern "groove box" approach that allows you to do a lot more changes and manipulation live while the unit is playing. Also the MC-101 allows you to sample your own sounds and loops.

So it really depends on what your own personal workflow is all about.

I didn't have an MC-101 for long as I upgrade quickly to MV-1, then to MPC One. (which in hindsight, I should have purchased from the beginning).

From memory the MC101 had better quality sounds and functions, but was also limited to 4 tracks. The JDXi however had the fun factor and very easy to get things happening. Something I found not so much the case with the MC-101 which (imo) involved too much menu diving, and I didn't enjoy using it anywhere near as much as the JDXi.

To this day, the JD is still my goto ideas scratch pad (even over the MPC One)

Definitely different workflows , I’m looking at using it more as a sound module. I’ve had a 101 , and was thinking about getting another , but thinking jd might be an option
