Has anyone A-B'ed the AES to SPDIF out to the analog out? If so can you hear a difference?

I have 2 Liquid Channels and a Liquid 4 Pre, and use them every day in my studio. If I have to track in other locations they go with me.
I can't really comment on the direct comparison to the gear that is being emulated, but I do use many of the emulated pres and compressors when tracking.
The full Liquid Channels are used for vocal tracking. Depending on the job I use these a lot:
Focusrite Red Pre and Comp
1073 Pre and 1176 Comp
Tubetech Pre and Tubetech or LA2A Comp
Sometimes the Avalon, Telefunken and API pres.

All sound great, and super quick to skip between emulations when the situation calls for it.

Probably the only gear in my studio that I would never get rid of or replace.

Anyone know or can check if there's any difference between the two liquid saffire 56 pre's and the liquid channel ones with the same name?

Saffire and Liquid channel share the same emulation technology, but preamps are unfortunatelly not the same. I believe Saffire doesnt have input transformer, or at least not the same. Most overlooked aspect of Liquid Channel is it's preamp actually, everybody is talking about emulations. Which is why i got mine for 350$ as the former owner thought that it's emulation technology is outdated.

Is the control software for the liquid channel still able to function on newer computers be it Mac or PC? I have an opportunity to pick up a pair for c.$2200USD and don’t want to spend that cash on something largely unuseable.

I’m running win 7 64 and works fine.

Can you confirm the Liquid Channel working capability with Win 10 64?

I tried but I don't think the link works, However I realized later that the link was for the Liquid Mix not Channel (Oops).

Just google Liquid Channel Windows 10 64 and see what comes up. If not, try contacting Focusrite Tech Support and they'll tell ya.

Thank you for the advice! I did some digging and its highly likely that I can get it to work with the Win 10 64. However now I face another problem, that is the liquid channel digital output and input is AES/EBU while my interface is only SPDIF and where I'm staying, there's almost impossible to find a budget converter. I read that I could get a XLR and RCA connector and somehow make it work but I dont know anything about soldering so I guess I'm out of luck lol

Perhaps an electronic shop can make you a custom cable.

This also made me have to work around the way I wanted to connect mine. But for the last 10 years I have just connected the line out to a line in on my RME interface.

Hi i 'd like to give my contribute. I own isa 110&isa 131.....every time i scroll the lc programs finding tones to use with the singer at the moment and scrolling i charge the isa those i own....the sensation is always the same....are identical to the original. This previews my personal interpretation eventually drive by an intentional comparition.

It doesn't work on all ... but when it works !
Different tastes here; I definitely love the Trident (nashville) emulation for smoothing vocals. Curve here is beautifully 70s

Did you find out? The other thing is just use it as a hardware channel strip and don’t worry about the software. I don’t even use the software I just tweak the Liquid Channel via itself.

Hey Kuzan, I was wondering are you still using your Liquid Channels and how is it when you want to drive it like running it hot to give it a bit of crunch on a harmonica or when you’re singing rock? I’ve heard the Liquid Channel has “Hot Pres” emulations but I have never found where to download them.

I’m also planning on picking up Advanced Audio’s MT8016 to compare a their hardware pres to the Liquid Channel.

Hey, can you connect different pres to the Liquid Channel and use only the compressors? Just wondering.

I still use my Liquid Channels on everything that I stick a mic on. Been 12 years now, and I use them almost daily.

For harmonica I usually use a Neve or Tubetech pre emulation and a Distressor compressor emulation.

As far as I can remember, the compressor can only be used in the 'mic in' signal chain. It is excluded in the Line In chain. It's a long time since I read the manual, and to be honest I've not tried because there are so many great sounding mic pre emulations in it.
I probably have the additional mic pre and compressor emulations stashed away somewhere if you need them.

I got the hot pre bundle in my computer.
Basically I found them in Download area Focusrite portal. Some are great but the factory ones are truly already excellent!

Has anyone tried A Designs Pacifica pres or any of the other “high-end” pres? Are there any situations where you would choose another pre besides the Liquid Channel?

It's the emulations published in March and May of 2005. You have to download the files and load them into the Liquid Channel.
Download all of the files and manual from the link that I sent you.

I have a question. A mic pre developer said this regarding the Liquid Channel
Is this statement correct? I thought I read that the Liquid Channel has a transformer. Hmmmm.

there's way too much bashing of an excellent and hugely versatile product...

anyway, the liquid channel has a custom input transformer that was deemed to be necessary to replicate the behaviour of some gear and hence gets switched in or out, depending on setting.

Hey cats! I was wondering if anyone runs their mixes out your DAC, then back through the Liquid Channel to use it as an OTB channel strip?

I was thinking this. Instead of buying more hardware like another compressor, eq, etc., to add that “Finished Touch” to my mix etc., why not just use the Liquid Channel? In other words, who’s using the Liquid Channel’s eq, compressors, and pres for added coloration to your mix like other outboard gear and then run the mix back through your ADC?
