the systech and a/da are my favs. the old dod one is great for the money.

I like my vfe enterprise - I prefer the slow and subtle sweep of 2 step phase so for me a phase 45, orbital by earthquaker, or vfe. they are all subtle and on the 200 bucks or less side - also - from a discussion about phasers that happened sometime previous we learned that vfe buffers the signal within - I think he said three buffer circuits, so the signal strength and loudness doesn't vary as much as with some phasers. a major problem with phasing is the cancellation of the signal and so it does tend to have volume peaks and troughs so a buffered phaser signal (or addition of a compressor) really expands and balances the scope of the effect

I use an MXR Phase 100, which can be pretty smooth and vintage sounding, I like tweaking the character with the extra knob. I also use a Small Stone, which sounds really cool, even though the tone is a bit heavy, it's just a great effect.

I really want to save up for the Moogerfooger though, that thing in stereo is SO COOL! I'd like to have the EVH phase 90, also. MXR is just such a solid effects company.

Best phaser. That is like what is the best beer. everyone likes something different.

That said, I have owned about 5 and always wind up dumping them and sticking with my old 1 knob Phase 90. Mine is old, but I have heard a newer one and it still sounded really good.

I think the Fender Classic Phaser is my new favorite, and a total sleeper. It's huge and has pulsating lights and a foot control. It sounds great and my friends are responding positively to it also.

I have 2 phasers, and like them both, but they are old. Mu-Tron Bi-Phase (expensive) and the Maestro wedge shaped phaser, which sounds great and can still be found for good prices. The Maestro with the 2 wheel knobs usually sells for under $200.

Best on the market? Maybe the Chase Bliss Wombtone, but it's expensive and hard to get.
I recently grabbed MXR's new Phase 99. It is two Phase 90 circuits which can run parallel or series, with a sync option. There is also a vintage switch which gives it the Phase 45 characteristics. Sounds great!

As far as a Phase 90 type, the Retro Sonic Phaser is the best I've tried, particularly because it has considerably less self noise than the real Phase 90s I've owned (script, block and also a Whirlwind OB). This is particularly important if you prefer to use it pre-OD.

A good sounding script phase 90 in a wah case is my fave.

IMO, aside from the Empress and Moog offerings, no other phasers can touch the EarthQuaker Devices Grand Orbiter V2, and the Chase Bliss Wombtone MKII.

It replaced a Moog on my board, as I found it more functional.

I'm really hoping Moog comes to it's senses and releases a MF-103M w/ Tap Tempo and switchable LFOs.

Time Travel Audio are a great company to deal with and make excellent quality pedals.

I've been using the EVH MXR Phase 90 which is dual mode, has both the Script and Block circuits on a top button select, and a better build plus power supply jack.
There are lot of more pricey units. Thing to look for is adjustable stages so you can get more control. The Phase 90 is a 4 stage which has always sounded very musical. So many out there, probably is not a bad one. If I replace mine I'd look for features and adjustments.

Man that is the puppy I want, that 99 is a sweet deal.
I use the EVH MXR 90 which is cool with the 2 modes and the improved circuit buffer but the 99 with two independent circuits seems so freakin cool. I love those Chase Bliss but man those puppies are not cheap. Always dug a phaser. I remember my drummer telling me having my large as usual board going with a good deja vibe and so on, he said that is my fav pedal sound, pointing to the phase 90. Remembering back in my early time as a new player the songs with a phaser in it really stuck with me as being such a cool tone. The Rover, Achilles Last Stand. Joe Walsh's Turn to Stone, all those early on classic songs, that effect always turned heads when I kicked it on. Makes a nice icing on the cake on the occasional song.

The Subdecay unit is great.

I have the smaller Quasar Quantum also but it's nothing like the DLX.

Pigtronix Envelope Phaser and an old Small Stone round up my phase issues.

I say that without ever owning or playing through one - I just love the subtle, chewy sound I hear on some QUEEN recordings (the solobits in WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS - for example) and Brian May used one.

I got a RPH-10 Phaser. It is very quite works keys or guitars.
It lots of different sounds all cool IMO

best phaser for stage use apart from a vintage Mutron Bi-phase is the Lovetone Doppelganger:

best studio phaser is the famous Roland PH-830 ... but this is a huge rack machine, and even more expensive ..:

One thing is for sure phasers are a bloody cool effect and if there is bad one I do not know. Sure is an infinite number of cool ones.
