hmm ... bummer. when i aim with my mouse for +3 db most of the time it show +3.6 or +3.9 which is to much. its a bit nerving aiming slowly slowly til it show +3 db ...
not mixing by numbers but by ear and it really is not so easy with a mouse.

Yeah, if you are in windows you might want to use left click and drag while pressing shift, that lets you to go into 0.1 db increments.

Wanted to say the same. True for almost every plugin maker, it's either shift, ctrl or alt for finer increments.

Asked support about that, was thinking that's a bug.

My findings too... The compression on the BX series has nothing to do with the real SSL desk. This test is actually pretty spot on.

Everything else is nice sounding.

Not going to comment on the meters.

People don't want to take me serious though, because I still use the MH channelstrip compressor on drums, when it comes to get that SSL smack and punch.

Has anyone here compared the EQ curves between the bx_console 4000 E and the '4kE' curves in DMG Equilibrium? They're shockingly different and not even in the same ballpark, particularly with respect to the width of the bell boosts. The DMG boost curves very wide in comparison, and stay wide until you hit really narrow Qs that are well outside the range of the console. I'm talking Qs like 30, where bx_console maxes out at 3.

I haven't directly compared to Equilibrium, but I noticed the E modes on Softube 9000K, bx_9000J and SSL Native Channel strip are all WAY wider than most 4000 series E emulations.

Maybe its closer to the 9000 take on an E series EQ? I think quite often, its the gain/Q proportionality, and overshoot/resonance that they'll determine the difference of the various SSL EQ's. Definitely interested to know what's going on with Equilibrium - the shapes and behaviours across the bx_consoles have all appeared pretty much as expected to me.

What people don't realise is the specs of these desks have changed slightly over the years. Tolerances are always an issue as is wear and tear and maintenance. No tow consoles sound alike. Hey man, no two channel strips in the same console sound alike, but granted, they are usually quite close.

Its very possible that since different desks were modelled, each with its own history that this is the kind of their you could expect. You never get the same kind of precision people have come to expect from plugins.

Also, think about it critically, Why would any dev not try their best to reproduce a piece of equipment they were modelling. The competition is two tough, the criticisers on the internet are too opinionated. Why do a half-ass job and commit business suicide. it just doesn't compute.

More likely, the differences are pertaining to the known issues with analogue equipment as I stated above.

Hey all. I just left a ticket for PA: GUI resizing has never worked for me in Reaper or Plugin Doctor (all the consoles have been stuck at 75% since they added the feature).

Has anyone else experienced this and figured out how to fix it? I much preferred the old 100% default but I don’t have a legacy installer to revert back.

I agree to all that is said, but It's the 9000 series is not supposed to be the same as the 4000. Even though the 9K EQ has a 4K mode. It's not difference in tolerances, it's difference in design. Though, they shouldn't be that far off, as described here. What's going on inside the EQuilibrium that explains the supposedly big difference between curves, I have no clue. But I do know, if you are attached to that specific vintage SSL 4000 sound, don't get a 9000 series EQ and definitely not the SSL Native.

I made a request in 2018 or so for a bus emulation for the SSL console line, PA/Bx said they were on it, but still nothing. Anybody hear anything about this?

No, never. You mean somethin akin to the VCC, right?

Yes exactly...even the very Lindell consoles PA sells have the bus and their amazing. Would love to see the SSL consoles get a bus too.

As a fan of the whole TMT thing, in general, I'm starting to think it would be nice to see a standalone TMT plugin that can be mixed nd matched in any context. Kind of like that whole Waves NLS thing.

Not sure I can see it working, though, as fundamentally it messes with all the different parameters in the plugin the same way tolerances do, and isn't just a single process that can be turned on. While it shouldn't be a problem for "tone" it would be for the dynamic elements.

They are very different. I much prefer the E by a mile, but that's just taste. Go find Joe Carrell's video for PA on YT where he demonstrates the 4k E and G as well as the 9000J. That gives you a pretty good picture of the differences
