I guess it would be cool for them to put in the manual - do not use random after you mixed into it - something along those lines. Even though i see here and on KVR people do it all the time and they report supposedly fantastic results - which is why i am baffled with these random things.

I tend to use the random/random all function before I start tweaking the controls. In PT I can insert the plugin on all channels with a keystroke combination and after that I'll do a random all thing.

It’s not about being corrected it’s about the rudeness of your response. It never hurts to be nice. Plus Avid was opposed to both hosts and wrappers at the beginning and since they equated the two I also did. As I said, host/wrapper both allow VSTs. It doesn’t change my point. You are just being rude over semantics. Nothing more.

While there is no right or wrong way to do it, the reason they wouldn’t put that in the manual is, it’s just a common sense thing, really. I mean, would you “randomly” drag your hand accross the faders of a mix, just to see what would happen? Probably not, right? “Randomly” twist the knobs on an eq and hope for the best? No? Ok. IJS...

I was being nice and still am. Just because I speak plainly is your problem. And it's not semantics but technical differences between the technologies used in a wrapper and a host. My day job for a goodly part of my life was in aerospace designing satellite control systems and there words have to be carefully/precisely used. And that still stays with me unto this day.

I know we're not designing spacecraft but it never hurts to use correct terminology.

If you bypass ‚everything‘ in the plugin you probably won‘t hear a difference. But by Default the HP/LP filters are active, and they, together with some noise / V Gain and THD start the magic.

The more EQ you use the more variation you will get. That‘s the EQ part....

Now, what most people completely overlook is that the DYNAMICS with TMT have way more impact on the stereo image, depth and liveliness than the static EQ!

Imagine a gate or compressor that even in linked mode ducks the signal a tiny bit faster or slower on one channel, or releases it the same way.

Route a Bass drum or a vocal
Or any other mono signal to a stereo bus, insert any bx_console to the stereo bus in Analog stereo mode, and activate a compressor. Check a scope and see the Bass Drum start to bounce... there is a great video on YouTube from somebody (not us), which shows this beautifully.

Now imagine 40 stereo tracks and busses in a mix and you’ll have a nice analog sounding mix.

On the product page for bx_console N there is a sound example of a song mixed with 70 different channels vs the same mix using channel 1 over and over. Also, there is the DIFFERENCE signal of these two mixes, after I phase canceled one of them and mixed them together. It’s quite eye (ear?) opening what you hear in that sound example.

Alright if that’s your being nice then I am at a loss. Anyone remember the guy from Office Space who keeps shouting “I’m good with people!”? If you are going to nitpick every word in a forum for the most minute detail of correctness then you are gonna need to quit your job because you are going to be really busy. What I meant, and should have said with this specificity so as not to catch your ire, was that even though Avid killed the wrapper, they eventually caved and allowed hosts to get the job done. I am sure that the world is a better place now that the differences between hosts and wrappers have been sussed out in a Brainworx/SSL thread. Can we please get back to the topic at hand now?

This is actually my least favorite things to use it for.... With the TMT on, you loose some of the bass drum punch IMO.

I am a "Bus mixer" (route my kicks, snares etc to each its own stereo bus > then to a common drum bus), and for the Kick Bus I always turn that analog thing off.
Me personally like the TMT much more for highr frequency instruments/sounds.... and on mono tracks (in which you notice more the subtle compression and eq differences).

Not a gimmick pr se, but not useful in every case either... So as always. How does it sounds (within the full production/mix).

Though I like the BX SSl, I always thought the UAD version sounded closer to the hardware. The problem is after using UAD API plug in's on the drums, and a couple of effects on guitars, I didn't have enough power to use many SSl channel strips which are so hungry on the old UAD2 cards. So I am ready to purchase the improved BX E Series when it comes out. It will be a good compliment to my SSl X Rack Silver modules.

TMT is great, don't change it, and don't pay too much attention to all the critics, from what I've read they're mostly criticising the value of the 'Random all' function which is understandable, but it's all a matter of how you approach your craft, if we were to ask Brian Eno I'm sure he would say Random is his favourite function, it's a matter of taste and preferred process, just promise not to change it, in my book it's a big plus.

TMT is here to stay, patent pending.

After all, even if somebody doesn’t even want different channels at all, these are still just amazing sounding emulations (please take my word for it for the next 16 hours or so until the public beta starts!).

Who needs 1-channel analog boards after all? ;-)

This is absolutely correct. And in the words of the immortal Phil Collins, “you’re taking it all too hard…“ What Dirk has done in giving us the random all function is really like, giving us too many options. Random all is a completely superfluous, even, advanced user feature. You don’t need to use it. You have everything you need to complete a TMT representative mix by just using the channels in sequence. While you’re mixing, you shouldn’t really “hear” the TMT. You should more “feel” it ultimately because it’s about depth perception.

So, just, don’t use the random all feature. If you’re really using the plugin properly, you’ll never miss it.

I never use the TMT option, I don't see any use for it, but I don't mind it's there for those who feel the need to use it. I think it's a false problem.

Just remember... NO ONE has ever asked for the TMT to be removed

My take on it is that TMT has its place... and sometimes not IMO. As long the TMT is optional I am all good

PS. All said, I'm a large PA/Brainworx supporter with about 60 plugins/licenses... and always some at work

Never wanted to question TMT, just said it alone was no reason for me to add another (great sounding) SSL emu.
I love Brainworx and own many of their plugins, the Acme Opticom being an alltime fav. I'll demo the new SSL strip and decide if it can change my mind.

How can anyone patent LR offset...that's what TMT is...you can do it with any EQ

You can offset EQs, but that´s not TMT. I posted about the details a few posts back, and there is lots of info on the Brainworx web site.

Here they seem to live fine next to the original. Tested as AU in logic X.

I already found a minor bug that the devs are probably aware of but here it goes anyway. V Gain ALL and THD ALL doesn't work until you click "don't show me this warning again".

Doesn't the original/current E channel work the same for TMT?
