Great question, thanks!
It's true, the VXS has tons of headroom, and then all in a sudden it gets nasty.
When we continued to model the E and G consoles we came up with our own proprietary console THD emulation, which is driven by the circuit of the modeled console. Since we and so many of you out there loved the sound of the E and G drive, and since many asked for this option to be added to the N we decided to go for it.
We have added so many features to the whole console line which the original desks never had, so we took the freedom to add our own THD / drive to the N. Now you can have the best of both worlds. Leave it at lower settings for a pretty clean experience, or let the N scream more than my original VXS actually will scream without being rude (pretty much unusable, as the VXS really breaks ugly once it goes 'over').
Hope you dig this feature, and since it is driven by the circuit it will still sound completely different in the N compared to the E and G. We tuned it to be another flavor in your mix arsenal.
