Oh yes you are correct. I only just got it so not totally familiar with it yet. I wonder why they went for the smaller mix knob when they already had a conventional one which is easier to see and operate?

Unfortunately it looks like they had to take it down. Luckily I bought it before SSL obviously stopped them from selling it. It's really good and has the saturation of the channel as well.

Try their 500 series. Pretty cool and inexpensive.

Yeah it's a very versatile compressor and I agree, doesn't matter how close it is to the originals, it's really good. Plenty of punch, can sit things in the mix, be gentle or smash things in parrelel. Both G and E comps are finding use.

Curious why SSL was able to shut them down. There's plenty of SSL emulations out there. As long as they aren't using SSL trademarks in their marketing or GUI what would be the grounds for SSL shutting them down?

I'm guessing because they are ex-employee's of SSL and know the in's and out's of the hardware and certain specs with out guessing what they are as they were building those units for SSL.

Just a wild guess.

overtone stuff was never my cup of tea. Maybe the compressor was better than the one on bx console, but not much beyond that.

Very cool but I want brainworx take on the g-bus compressor. Any word on that?

In the meantime this one is my current favourite.

I have to say that the PA one is a serious contender for the first place for the fallowng reason :

1) Sounds at least as good as other

2) TMT

3) Licencing flexbility

4) Maintenance : PA stept ther game up in that area ... it's pretty solid , and way faster in that regard .

CPU hit is still exellent and gui size on point (for the channel strip) and the color and design is enhanced from the orignal .

Thank you SOOO much for posting/sharing this with us. This is EACTLY what I was looking for.
In fact, since I purchased the E Console just a few weeks ago (on sale for $99.00), I was offered an upgrade price of $50 to upgrade.

Long story short: I fell in love with the BX Console E after being a Waves SSL fan for a while.When I heard the difference, my jaw dropped and I pulled out my wallet faster than you could say "Solid State Logic".
Then this came out. Is it worth the upgrade? I just made an extra $50 off a mixing session today and I was thinking about upgrading if it's absolutely worth it.
I guess I'll check out your other thread before I make up my mind.

Has anyone else tried out the new bx_SSL4KE? Thoughts? Impressions? Is it worth $50 to upgrade from bx_E to the bx_SSL4KE?

I did. I just wanted to hear what other people's impressions were. Being that I can only demo so much on my own material, and I also assume that other's are working on different styles/genres that I may not currently be doing. i.e. most of my projects are Hip-Hop, Soul and Gospel right now, but I'd like to branch into rock, jazz, metal, blues etc.) So I just wanted to see what those people thought.

My impression so far is that it's tighter and more focused than the old version (I have the bx_E Console) And I think I'm going to purchase the SSL version right now.

That said, I'd still like anyone's opinions. It seems like the other thread has devolved into a discussion over pricing, which I found myself falling into, and quickly rescued myself from. lol

What were your impressions?

Much sweeter top end and the low-mids are cleaner / less washy. Bit faster transients. The compressor is more to my liking now. I haven't touched a real SSL in about 9 years, so I can't say which is more like the actual console, but I can say I prefer the new SSL E.
Overall, many welcomed changes and I can get the desired sound faster.

Late to the party but finally demoed and definitely going to have to fork out the cash for this one. The top end on the E eq is so so smooth and has weight to it. The compressor section is pretty stunning and love the difference in sound between the E & G models. It can pin a vocal right up the centre and add a nice sheen to it. Would never have been my first choice for vocal compression, but as others have said, it's super versatile.

Not a huge fan of channel strips in general cause they never give me enough but this really delivers. Love the huge GUI and I was able to get results quickly and probably better than my previous workflow and that's the most important bit to me - saving time without compromising.

Very impressed.

I imagine if you are trying it now you tried the new SSL approved model and not the original release before SSL where involved? The reason I ask is because this thread is for the original. There is a new thread for the SSL approved versions. Just wanted to clear up any possible confusion.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet in this forum or another, but I've become aware recently of a major glitch with BX SSL 4000 E plugin. I don't even own any PA products (I did in the past when I was still using cracks), but I thought worth mentioning the issue here.

The glitch was found running pink noise through the plugin and analyzing the signal with a frequency analyzer. If you make adjustments with the low mid band on Console E, it is not calibrated correctly with frequency. I thought maybe it was at first just a discrepancy with the hardware that might've been modeled, but the frequency offsets are just too drastic to say that it's probably a modeling thing... we're both very seasoned studio engineers that have worked for major record labels.

Try it yourselves and let me know what ya'll think. This only happened with the low mid band on the E, not the G.

Hi. I can't download my paid BX_Console E anywhere... looks like it got replaced by SSL 4000E ... it offers me to buy it at 99$...

what's going on ? Is the plugin dead and not downloadable anymore ? Have i missed something ?
