bx_console E V1.0.1 - you have been heard!
Hey guys, WITH YOUR HELP weβve uncovered a pretty nasty bug in V1.0.0 of the plugin, which indeed affects the gain knobs of the EQβ¦, mainly the 2 high bands (HF & HMF).
While the modeling of the E series EQs (black and brown revisions) was spot on as you would expect from a Brainworx emulation, this was only true for the EQ gain knobs at maximum EQ boost / cut, at least with the V1.0.0 which you had access to. As some people here stated (and I have to give you guys credit for noticing it without having the actual hardware we modeled to compare! THANK YOU!), in order to boost just a few dB, you actually had to fiddle around with gain settings between 0.2 and 0.8dB.
The weird thing is that we ALWAYS match all of the knob behavior of the analogue idols, and while we were internally working with the correct knob behavior, you guys had a version that started way too hot at low gain settings, getting closer and closer to the original behavior the closer you got to maximum boost / cut.
How did that unmatched version make it to the public? I have no idea, but I decided not to shoot myself or any developer over it. Hope you agree.
At lower gain settings (for example a boost of 2dB) the plugin boosted quite a few dBs more than the hardware with the same knob setting. The modeling was still accurate, but users had to be way more cautious with the gain knobs than you typically have to be working on a true RockΒ΄nΒ΄Roll machine like the E series console.
Please update to the V1.0.1 for the most realistic experience. ItΒ΄s available for Download NOW!
Unfortunately this means that your sessions mixed with V1.0.0 will have less gain boost and cut on the 2 high frequency bands (HF & HMF), so the sessions will not be 100% sounding the same anymore when you open them with V1.0.1 or later.
We have 2 work-arounds we can offer:
- Please save and rename your V1.0.0, so you can use it when opening older sessions.
- Or adjust HF & HMF gain knobs by ear, which really will do the trick in smaller sessions.
The rest of the plugin is unaffected, so all your filters, dynamics, frequency and Q settings will stay the same.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Center Frequency Behavior:
I went back and double checked what you guys said, and the good news here is that the plugin is indeed behaving like the E series EQs we modeled. The labeling is pretty far off with a lot of the Frequency knobs. This is not a bug though as the channel strips do exactly what the plugin does. In fact I am planning on making a little iPhone video to show you this as soon as I get to it.
While we enhance some of the features of the analogue gear we model, we aim at capturing the quirks and mysteries of the gear as well, so even though it would be possible to "correct" the labeling or adjust the knob behavior, we decided that leaving things "as they are / were" is the way to go here.
V1.0.1 is available NOW (that means NOW!) via the Plugin Alliance Installation Manager, please just download and install.

Make sure you first save your current V1.0.0 if you believe you want to go back and open older sessions with it, before you actually install and overwrite with V1.0.1.
Keep on rocking everybody,
Dirk - PA/BX.
