In all honesty I only own the RC Tube, but in the future, I'd like to get the full VCC, just wasn't sure if I should even bother with waves anymore. I too, am growing to dislike their policies, though sometimes, some of their plugs are inevitable (vocal rider, super tap, etc. - some I always use).

Though VTM is next on my list from Slate.

I use it for almost everything: compression, analogish warmth emulation and sometimes even for limiting. It's CPU friendly, quite cheap and 64bit too.

I demoed some Waves plugs and Slate VCC and honestly I can't not a HUGE difference between them. I don't know about UAD though...

yes it's fantastic. I think some people don't know how to use it, but it's one of my desert island plugins

I did not include Nebula since it is not a complete plugin by itself. However I have compared AlexB's console emulation for nebula to Slate's VCC and have favored Nebula. I have also compared AlexB's SSL Bus compressor to Duende Bus Comp and the GLue and again have favored Nebula followed by Duende and then the Glue. I have fab filter pro-q and is the only non Nebula EQ I really like and have tried just about all them. But it is a surgical eq although a great one. But for that analog eq sound I have to again give it to AlexB's Nebula stuff. Its the only digital eq I have found that actually grabs the sound by the balls like real analog eq. All that praise about Nebula but I must say it is a pain in the butt to use and look at. It will probably be another year until I figure out what my go-to's will be. Because workflow may supercede sound. We shall see.

Also I'm surprised no one mentioned the PSP42 (lex pcm42 emulator). That is probably my favorite delay plug.

More interesting to me, which ones were you able to part with?


BTW- Is Fabfilter Pro-Q really better sounding than EQuality?
I'm surprised EQuality hasn't gotten more mention in the EQ realm within
this thread. I tried the Pro-Q before but something about FF's interfaces
don't gel with my mind. I can handle Slate FGX and EQuality but not the
Pro-Q and Pro-L.

Yeah.

For me after coming across the Pro-Q interface going back to any other of my eq plugins is cumbersome by comparison. I've yet to come across a better designed EQ GUI. For anything corrective it's become my absolute go to. Fabfilter are kinda awesome, and seem to keep up the getting better.

If I had to start from scratch these days I'd start with all of the Fabfilter Pro stuff, and move on from there. The only reason I don't have their Gate, Limiter, Saturn, and now this new de-esser yet is because I've already got some stuff that works for me in those departments. I'm lacking in restoration and cleanup type plugs at this point. So far it looks like Izotope Rx is going to be my next plugin purchase. Then I might get Zynaptiq's Unveil plugin for removing reverb (once they are Protools compatible). After that I'll get the rest of the Fabfilter stuff. At which point I'm guessing the rest of my limiting, gating, and de-essing plugins will be seeing less light of day. As far as saturation and distortion we'll see. I tend to bounce around and have my favorites for different instruments and duties. I'm excited to add Saturn to the mix. The video looks pretty thorough though. I'm looking forward to playing with it. I just have a hard time seeing it being a one stop because of how much I love some of the other plugins I already have for specific duties and colour. Tapehead, Kramer MPX, Decapitator, Devil-Loc, Little Radiator all get used in nearly every session for me. Oh yeah I also want to buy the UBK-1. Then I might try some of the console emulations, then there are always more samplesets, and softsynths... ah sh!t it never ends does it? an we're still just talking software here. I've got an even longer list of hardware needs/wants/desires...

DMG EQuality. I'll try FF again, it's been a while, maybe a couple of years
since I'd gave Pro-Q a shot.

Has anyone A/B'd the quality though? I find the choices of analog phase and
minimal phase in EQuality more to my liking than the digital or linear phase.

Sorry I should have made myself clearer. Didn't mean to come across discrediting EQuality. Honestly I haven't even tried it. Mostly I was responding to the interface issue you had with ProQ. I just find it the best laid out EQ GUI I've come across by far. I was surprised and curious that anyone would dislike it and why is all. Haven't tried EQuality yet so can't mention a quality comparison between the two. I've never felt anything lacking in ProQ's quality compared to other plugins I have anyways. I usually only use the Linear phase modes in audiosuite and zero latency mode. Even the lowest linear phase mode in Pro-Q is longer than the max delay compensation in my ProTools rig. Again I usually use it for corrective EQ. I use other ones for sweetening. I actually really like IK Multimedia's Pultec for most broad top & bottom sweetening. I might use IK's linear phase EQ more but I find that GUI incredibly cumbersome and limited compared to Fabfilter. I actually kind of dislike that kind of GUI for software EQ. The IK Mutimedia fairchild is often my first grab for software compressor though. Unless I need frequency dependent or detailed external side chain compression. Then I grab Pro-C first (depending). Sometimes waves SSL bus comp is the ticket for external SC ducking.

I've been meaning to get the Brainworx DynamicEQ for a while now. Someday I will. Just not the kind of tool I'll need to pull out every day (and I need a few things still that do fit that category). That said a lot of the brainworx stuff looks damn good and well thought/laid out.

Got and love Valhalla Room from recommendations on this thread. I didn't have a decent algorithmic verb yet. I only wish there was a surround version of it. At some point I'll get the other offerings from Valhalla. Pretty sure it was this thread that brought my attention to Zynaptiq too. Never heard of them before but the two plugs that they currently offer look amazing in their promo videos. Glad to know they'll be supporting ProTools soon. I've been so focused on hardware the last year I haven't spent much time researching plugs.

I've had UBK since around the time it was released and JUST bought Valhalla room. These are some of my favorite plugins of all time now...along with all of the Massey stuff.

BTW, really enjoying the FF Pro-G, way more than I thought I would.
And I checked out Pro-Q again. I think DMG EQuality sounds better
with it's Analog Phase and Minimum Phase modes.

AND, I remembered what I didn't like about Pro-Q's interface. Only one
band visible on the bottom. I like EQuality and the 7 bands to jump
between easily down there as well as within the curve itself. And I like
the numbers as a reference in addition to my ears.
