I Might soon be taking the upgrade to a Mix+ system, with 24-bit adat bridge, and m-box for the laptop ( or magma chassis to make laptop be the end all)

I have a lead on a cheap original 888 - the 16-bit model.

I was thinking of picking this one up for having access to the AES i/o for fx processors since my ADAT bridge will lack this. For as cheap as the box is it can also serve as a cheap extra 8 outs.

question is - even though this is the 16-bit analog converter box, does anyone know if the AES can still handle 24-bit signal, and up to what sampling rate?

just to make sure, this box will still work with current mix+ systems?

aes will handle 24bit signal transfers in either direction .... for the old 888's ... the SR is 44.1 or 48 k.

It is the aes that made the old 888's VERY popular as digital only interfaces in a 24bit PT Mix environment.

I used to have 3 of them with only digital gear connected to it.

Yeh - I picked one up second hand for the same AES link reasons..

Cool & cheap...

In a pinch, you can use any 24 bit FX unit in BYPASS to act as 24 bit converters to PT... We have rigged up up to 8 extra inputs this way MANY times...

This has made me think about my converter needs....
