Trackspacer get used for ducking here when spectral ducking from smart:comp doesn't suffice. Sometimes you want to achieve harder ducking ime.

Buy the more expensive one first with the virtual cash added, rate it , convert any tokens and then buy the cheaper one ( distinct!) with any virtual cash.
Normally it’s good if they are offering a selection of freebies but in this case there is only one.....

I tend to use laser for sidechain and trackspacer to make space in the tracks if needed as the name suggests ?. Haven’t used smart comp for some time so should dig out again....

Thanks for pointing out Wavesfactory Trackspacer. I see it is another Plugin Boutique only exclusive this month (until Feb 28 at £33.95 / $39). I keep hearing good things about it. That still gives me some time to dig into it a little deeper to see what it does compared to plugins I already have!

I don't know what Trackspacer does behind curtains... But it goes beyond ducking IMHO. It is really unique and so easy to use... Was one of the first plugins I bought.

Was eyeing Distinct! And can't see why I would use it instead of all the saturators I already have... Maybe I'm missing something?

Most here are probably aware but for those that may not be….Pete Thorn did a YouTube with some good tones from the Friedman DS-40 and BE-100 in his Top UAD-2 Guitar Tones series (Tone 5 "Tokyo Hotel Room"). He did several others (in Tones 1 - 8) that also included some now native Plugin Alliance (and Softube) amp sims. Good for some ideas!

I bought the Wavesfactory bundle for 50% off ($219) this past black friday. Trackspacer, Spectre and Quantum are excellent. I haven't used Echo Cat or Cassette other than to quickly check them out.

I think you'll find it hard to hear bad words against Wavesfactory. I'm certainly rather impressed by them.

I quite like it, as it is so easy to set up. Sometimes, though, I find it doesn't make enough space for the other signal, so I use another processor after it (static or dyn eq).

Exactly - if it is producing a reversed EQ curve from the incoming sidechain signal then that is ducking - might be more accurate ducking but it's still effectively ducking. Don't understand what the confusion is about myself.

there is always a bigger fish and a better deal!

trackspacer is easy to use.
you can do almost the same thing for free, with having stronger control on timing and masking frequencies.

* get the free TDR Nova (4 bands, or pay for the GE with 6 bands and de-ringing autopilot).
* feed the vocal (or guitar solo..) to the external side chain.
* watch the relevant frequencies in the spectral display, that you want to protect from getting drowned in your tight instrument mix. switch between input and sidechain a couple of times.
* set the dynamic EQs, choose ratio etc., it works very well once you made a couple of presets, then you mainly adjust frequencies and thresholds.
* as with trackspacer, decide which stem bus to duck, for creating space to the vocal. insert Nova there.

if you have a "rack" tool with free wiring among any number of plugins, you can have easily a number of sidechain inputs (if there are additional instrument soli) with individual control on impact and main frequency bands. just insert an EQ and a volume fader to each of the control inputs.

with wise choices (Q is crucial, release speed very important), impact is very strong, but you won't hear it working.

Yes, I already posted this deal on the previous page or two back. It's a repeat deal, you'll find more opinions when SSL originally put this on sale which was a few months back iirc.

If you don't want to go and check out all that previous chatter, the general consensus seems to be: sounds good, but not amazing, and at time of original release was disappointingly not as good as the SSL X-Verb it replaced (which was coded by Relab and quite well regarded back then), and it's not that CPU-light.

I like the interface, but it didn't offer me anything better than my current reverbs, so it's not something I picked up, but like all these deals, different ones can hit upon different user case points so if it's something you're interested in, by all means check it out (and let us know what you think.)

It's a bit "light" sounding, not so large and vacuous in the bass or whatever, tends to blend into the mix.

It's pretty good! But it's also not necessarily the "best reverb ever" or anything, it's just good, gets the job done.

I also liked the old one, and I also find it strange mine didn't come with any presets.

Haven't had time to delve into it as much as I'd like, but seems rather versatile. At that price, unless you're overrun with reverbs, I'd certainly consider it.

No presets? Are you sure? Got plenty of presets. The preset tab is at the bottom of the gui right below the frequency knob of the EQ. SSL tends to bury where the presets tab is in their plugins and with the gui being what it is it's easy to miss. Note that this is on a Mac running OSX 10.13.6 and ProTools 2021.6.

FabFilter Pro R and this plugin are two different animals and they both can do different things. I have both (with more experience with Pro R) but there were a couple of places the Flex Verb worked where Pro R wouldn't.

Overall I'm liking it. It's not my go-to verb and I don't think it will work on everything but it's a good tool to have when nothing else will work. Just like there are times the Eventide Blackhole reverb fits the bill.

For a lazy ass like myself that seems like too much work (and I don't know enough to be able to do all that yet). Trackspacer is super simple and works great for me, got it pretty cheap also.

sonible smart comp does something similar. better, i think. but also with plenty of latency and some cpu use.

Been evaluating Buxom Betty and it's been very interesting. Not working out all that well on guitar as I have to rolloff too much of the input level to keep it from breaking up way more than I'm comfortable with. Too brittle and the level is so low compared to other amps sims like the Softube Marshalls it ain't funny. Tried it with various Strats I have and nothing seemed to give a sound I could work with. Active pickups? Fuhgeddaboutit.

On the other hand with vi's like Rhodes or Yamaha CP70 pianos it's killer. Ditto for that garage rock sound with a Vox Continental or Farfisa Combo Compact. B3 for that Jon Lord sound - not good at all (remember that he did not use a Leslie).

Haven't decided one way or the other yet.
