Interesting theory.

I sometimes thought I was being stalked by Waves. Whenever I provided help with suggestions to those asking, they'd put the plugin in question on sale a short time later.

Well that's the way it seems, but its inconsistent, then there is this thing called "pareidolia". Probably not the best use for the old in the purest terms, but it does underline the same brain conditioning. Basically, it's a phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus like an image, as an example, and perceives a pattern where none exists.

It would seem that some people are more prone to pareidolia than others, which describes sightings if Jesus or Elvis, or that DAWs sound different and that analogue is superior to digital.

Do you think someone is manually turning it off, waiting there for exactly 11:59:59? Don’t think it’s unreasonable for a sale to end on the day it tells you it’s going to end. Do you try to go to stores 20 mins after closing and say “Guess I wont spend any money!”

You're missing what Jeffrey Rashad is saying. If you look back at previous time limited sales discounts PA has put out they have run over their specified time and not just by a couple of hours but in some instances for days. That's even been mentioned a number of times in the mists of time of this thread.

I compared the townhouse compressor to the waves ssl and the townhouse maintains depth, width, and punch. With and without the sidechain. The waves ssl always narrowed the sound to me and It overreacted to the signal. If you compressed 3-4 dB it was obvious and started hurting the mix. But with the townhouse you can compress 4db and still have an open sound.

Now add in that you can dry/mix the signal if you want (great for parallel compression) and add in a sudchain filter and it makes this plugin a must have. One more feature is an Input headroom trim. Now you don’t have to insert a trim plugin before the ssl if the signal was hot. Also has a sidchain key for bass or whatever buss you would used this in. I might try it with a box bus driving the music compression to see how that works.

Anyways, this plugin is better than the waves. I’m trying to distant myself fro waves and with everything I bought this holiday season, I can just let waves drop off. I do wish there was a plugin like ren channel though. Easy to see what’s happening and easy to use. But I could get by without it I guess.

How much compression do you typically use on 2 bus?

Depends on the track and at what stage Im using the compression.

If its a normal pop song and I am mix into the compressor, 2 db. Just let the meter move slightly. If its a hard metal song, Ill go more to 4.

If I am mastering and have it on, I will usually do it in stages depending on what the song needs. But no more than 4db max and thats not common. But I did work on an ssl G for a few years long ago and I could hit that compressor harder than the waves lets you. I always thought this but just accepted it. With the townhouse you can be more aggressive and not have to worry about it. It does stay open where waves box in.

I was going to get Zynaptiq bundle for the Adaptiverb, for 220 and it would come with Morph and Wormhole. Adaptiverb is the best reverb I've heard on the computer, that's my opinion. It's smooth, beautiful sounding. (to be clear it's not really just a reverb, but it's really fun to work with just for its own merit, like they decided less to make a reverb than a fun sound design tool that sounds beautiful). But when it comes down to it Valhalla Vintage Verb sounds about 85% as good despite being not very inspiring to work with and covers more use cases. I'll get Adaptiverb next winter, no doubt.

I surprisingly have decided to buy Plogue Chipsynth and Chipcrusher instead for 135, not on sale but I could really use it in a current production I'm working on.

I was going to get Thorn for the hell of it but the voucher timed out so whatever. I wasn't really planning on getting it but I kind of wish I had.

I'm gonna start a plugin company called MONEY FUNNEL with one plugin for sale called FUNNEL. It will be a plugin that makes things louder, but the main purpose is to funnel money into my company's bank account.

funny but unironically Airwindows already makes Loud which is free and it's pretty great for that one purpose. I'd really like to learn more Airwindows ****, might be cool to do a series just looking at their best plugins and explaining them briefly so people can get into his company.

Airwindows seems interesting but it's kind a hard to penetrate with the sheer number and the lack of gui. Would be cool to have a good guide to it basically, and might boost his business too if people realized his stuff wasn't just bs

Now there's a $75 voucher, minimum purchase $149. I could have saved another $50 on Lindell 80 Series, but I thought the $25 voucher the other day was the last one for the year. I'm kinda upset. This makes me not want to buy any more of their plugins.

Same here. I actually got the Lindell 80 without a voucher at all, and now this. It's not that I mind paying 100€ or so for a good quality plugin. But I wish the price would be stable. This feels like the stock market. I save money to get something and I hesitate to make the move because maybe the next day it will be like 50% off. I have to organize a plan based on previous experience and on comments in GS, to guess when it is going to be better to buy it. But I need it today. It is no wonder, that in all PA product threads, people comment more on what they paid for the plugin, rather than how it sounds. I blame PA for that. Plugins like the SSL 4K have a regular price of $349 and I got it for $24 with a combination of voucher + sale. I don't mind that, but I prefer to know it costs a regular price that makes sense, like $70-100, pay it when I need it and get on with my life.

Somehow alot of people like that poker game with PA. For me it's really off turning.

You'll not find many support in this thread. Like Illusionaire said, people here comment more on the price than on the sound, and it says everything about what the PA marketing and sales policy is about : create a feeling of (false) urgency based on overpriced plugins and huge constant sales, and then play poker with their customers in the psycho-drama style, constantly changing the rules (sales are gone, sales come back, last voucher ever, finally we've got another one, greatest deal ever, actually the next one will be bigger etc. etc.)
Some other companies are just offering the right price and stick with it (DMG Audio, Tokyo Dawn Labs, Valhalla, etc. etc.). And usually, they are managed by nice persons (at least based on what they post on the threads of their products).

When I complained about this insulting policy of PA one year ago (I didn't know the PA play at the time), most people on this thread didn't understand. They seem very happy about checking each day the PA prices and betting they will get a bargain. I don't know how much time they spend each day on internet just for PA, but it must be huge because I see the same people all the time on this thread and it's constantly fueled. Do they actually use the hundred plugins they bought or are they just checking internet compulsively 2 hours a day for more ?
Price of plugins (PA or not) and sales are the most frequent topics (by far).
Most of theses guys have too much plugins for a single life, so actually they spent much more than they would if the prices were right and stable.
So of course it's a win for PA.

I wanted to buy the HG-2 black box (very nice tone in the subtle area that I can't reproduce with any other saturation tool), but I will pass and just wait for a better deal. So much time consumed checking my emails, gearslutz and the PA site...
I don't say that the PA plugins are bad (some of them are gems), and I don't say that their offers were not attractive (in the past at least), but I truly don't understand how so much people can find it nice and exciting instead of basically insane...

PA poker - the house always wins

My strategy, if you can call it one, is to wait until the end of the month to use the monthly loyalty vouchers. I don't know how many times I've demoed a plugin on the last day and made the purchase close to midnight.

They do sometimes drop extra $25 vouchers, but not often. The $75 voucher was a nice surprise since they didn't send out loyalty vouchers for December. Guess I will have to demo Iron and the SHMC.

That's what I though first. Wow 75 eur voucher. Not bad. But with the last voucher I was thinking I buy the purple or iron. That would be 45 + tax. Now I have to buy purple and iron and spend 75 + tax.
Lol fallen in the trap. I will pass on both and call it a day.
And I really don't have a prob to pay a good amount on plugin when im sure I need it and it make sense. But this whole poker thing took already to much time from me this week

I mean no one in here actually has a say in how PA does it's business. I'm sure everyone would take low prices all the time but not everyone will buy middling or high prices all the time. I like DMG's products but I won't pay those prices (trackcomp 2 is the only one I would pay for). If the standard price of every plugin was $50 with no sales ever (the vallhalla way) then yeah that would be great!

If you're so upset about it then don't pay any attention at all and buy what you need but I don't think being upset with PA policies should mean you take it out on the bargain hunters in here (like it's our fault...)

You speak as if the obvious isn't known. It's a given we don't have a say in how the PA poker game is set up (I.e. their price structure),
But consumers do have the fundamental right to discuss their thoughts on a company and its marketing.

Nothing is being "taken out on you."

Two things happen in this thread:

1. People complain about PA (vast majority of the thread for the last 150 pages)
2. People post deals

No need to make out that A the people in here are unsympathetic to the problematic PA sales policies (like I said the vast majority of post in here are people complaining) or that B people in here are idiots who eat it up, have nothing better to do with their time and are in some kind of "psycho drama" abusive relationship with a plugin company.

That's how I read it anyway.

I've pretty much hit saturation with regards to PA-sold plugins. Have most everything on the site save for those I've demo'd and didn't much like. All the Maag stuff and the vi's no sale. Same with the Diezel amps and Rockrack V3. I passed on the Lindell 80 for reason already mentioned by me. And the Focusrite console doesn't grab me in a nice way. What's that leave me with? Purple MC77 - but if I want to buy that using the $75 voucher I'd have to find something to fill in the other $79 which would mean I'd be buying a whole bunch of stuff I don't really want. That puts me in the same boats as others here with having stuff on my system I don't really need/use and purchased to make use of a voucher.

For me unless PA comes up with something that's really great at a great price - I'm done with them. I'll spend my money other places instead. Like Fabfilter. I seem to remember in a previous email from PA that they are supposed to be coming up with new products/brands in the new year. Here's an interesting speculation to start: anybody have thoughts on what might be in the pipeline? Time to put on your Miss Cleo (old TV psychic here in the US) hat and see what pops up.

One last thought on this 'monster sale': if you look at the PA site and prices you find that Byome and Triad are the only two plugins not on discount but full price. But there's a temporary combo of Byome AND Triad for $99. Very interesting considering that Triad in single band mode is everything that's in Byome.

The consumer has a choice. To buy, or not to buy. You are in control of your buying destiny.

Do you have to have that plugin this very minute?

I have some plugins on a wish list. I wait to see what they get reduced to and if they are cheap enough then I buy, if not, well, then I don't buy.

If you missed out on a sale due to PA poker or any other reason, no worries, there will be another one soon.
The longest you will have to wait will be no longer than a year, till the next BF/Christmas/Year End sale.

I have the IKMM version of the 33609 - it's overpriced and not that good - difficult to get a decent sound out of it.

I sent PA a message, ticket created. I have no expectations. Unless they release a Trident A Range that is twice as good as the 80 Series, they're never getting another penny from me as long as I live on this Earth.

The fact that they don't give out vouchers in December led me to believe the $25 one was the last of the year. Christmas is the giving holiday, not the 28th. Why couldn't they just issue the $75 voucher on Christmas? Probably for the same reason they sent an email with the $25 voucher saying that Townhouse compressor was $49.99, but then on the website changed it to $39.99 so you couldn't use the voucher on it ($49.99 minimum purchase). Yeah, I've had enough of this.

I think the $75 on top of current sale prices is a good deal in line with PAs best offers of the past. I picked up plugins that are a little different to anything else I have: Chop Shop EQ, DearVR Music, Dent 2 and Fault. That works out under $20 per plugin for some really creative tools.

yeah to be honest, , we were kind of spoiled in the past with those "use 75 dollar voucher and get 2 plugs for 10 bucks" deals tbh

But you're still spending time watching to make sure you don't get burned with getting a voucher an hour after you buy something.
