I'm not a fan of over-hyped highs or the so-called airband stuff. Actually I don't use that much eq on a regular basis as I prefer to work with the source to get what I want. However if I do have to 'fix it in the mix' I'll do it but am not happy about that. Mostly to take care of masking effects. I will use dynamic eq to take out the odd honky sounding brass sounds.
The thing with Passeq or any passive eq is you have to divorce yourself from the usual way of thinking a 'regular' eq works and that ain't easy. It essentially is one huge filter with the signal going through everything in series.
No, I dont mean overhyped highs, which I dont use at all. I was able to fit my grand piano recordings with the perfect EQ for it, in my case its the museq. I use it as a creative tool, just to be played blind on every band. That brings for me the best results. Totaly other thing is to work and clean up with Equality for example.
The NSEQ-2 , you really should try also. Really good one with more vibe and silky tube sound. Like the hardware, you can change the output stage between tube and jfet. Could be the perfect counterpart for your Passeq. Sales come for shure in the future for 99 USD.
