I think they consider the notch/LP and notch/HP as two filters each. So the count would be (left to right in each channel):

A major difference no one covered is the hybrid V2 easily maps to an Avid Icon console and the digital V3 doesn't. Since I don't have one of those a long time back I grabbed the Digital V3 which has been great as a surgical and problem solving eq. Not really nuts about it on the 2-bus or as a 'mastering' eq as PA sells eq's better suited to that duty.

That makes sense. I only count the bands which can be used together so for me this is not an 11 band EQ. Marketing speak says otherwise .

I'm still going to try it but I think I may be better off saving until I can afford Fabfilter Pro-Q which ultimately is the parametric I really want. I can consider the $29 I would have spent on this as part of my Fabfilter fund.

Actually I like the gui in the so-called 'black on black' plugins - less eye strain when working with something like that for hours on end.

As I wrote in another reply I'm passing on this as I already have digital V3. Just got Fabfilter Pro Q3 late last year and you'll like it. Especially it now has dynamic eq option as well as per-band M/S whereas in the old Pro Q2 that choice was over the whole plugin. Ain't cheap but then again anything good rarely is and FF has yet to make a dog of a plugin.

I definitely like my plugins to have more 'cheerful' design. Soundtoys are nearly equally worse GUIs as bx_black, "nearly" only because they are simpler functions per plugin. 'Unfortunately' their sound is so right for me.

Anyway, since I have Eiosis AirPre and Sonnox DynEq, the bx_blacks have nothing to offer to me.

Who else hates the solo and auto function on he otherwise fantastic bx-eq?
I always disable it as it is too distracting, especially if you are trying to use it in a context of a mix (not in solo)...

I've already decided not to demo this. I don't want to be tempted. I have a monthly amount I allow myself to spend on "things I want but don't need" and if I resist all sales until May then next month I can afford Pro-Q. Once I have Pro-Q I have pretty much everything I could want except a limiter and for now I can live with the Ableton one since I only use very light limiting - compressors cover most of what I want in terms of volume/body and I only need a limiter for those few loud peaks which are better left to a limiter. Not sure which one I want. I like the sound of the Tokyo Dawn one but I don't want all those other modules, just the limiter part (and the CPU hit is a lot!) Fabfilter Pro-L is another contender there though much more expensive.

I certainly haven't used every single one, but I have owned and still own a few of them, so can directly compare. Some are in the ball park, but different enough that you can always pick out the original, others aren't recognisable, as if they've just got a generic dsp synth and given it the parameters and UI of a specific synth and said they've modelled it.

Will do some comparisons when I get a chance.

Another pass on this, really really hate the outdated looking UI both functionally and aesthetically, I have Pro Q so if I got this I doubt I'd ever use it.

Thinking about Tokyo Dawn made me realize I can probably get what I want out of Pro-Q (a flexible parametric with dynamic EQ support) using Nova GE instead (currently I have the free version and I like it.) Nova works as a static or dynamic EQ (or combined static with dynamic bands.) Then I'd have more budget for other plugins as well, like maybe some more PA stuff .

I know this is a PA thread but I did a little searching and couldn't find much useful so far on Pro-Q vs Nova. Mid/Side operation is one thing Pro-Q has. Other than that? Anyone have both or at least compared demos? You can direct me to existing threads if this has been discussed and I have failed to find them.

EQ2 allows switching the band frequency for the one band instead of fixed frequencies. And has a single extra frequency (15KHz) for the air band. Is it worth it? Difficult to say. I rarely use it. Also got it effectively free so I don't feel too bad about it but basically I use it if I want the 15KHz air band and that's about it. The limitation of only having a single other band means I mainly reach for EQ4 instead. Multiple fixed bands beats single switchable band for me. Also EQ2 is boost only. I far more often want to both cut and boost.

You're not going to pay much for any of those with a $75 voucher so I'd pick the one you want most, not the one that will cost least/use most of the voucher. And you can wait until the last minute to decide just in case something else comes along on a sale.

Also important to note, you should be able to use your voucher until the end of the 31st California time. Don't quote me on that, though. You may want to confirm with PA support. But I've used other time limited vouchers on the morning of the next day (10am here is midnight the previous day in California.)

OK, I've figured out one thing for sure: I can always fall back on the account deals if I wait 'til the last day of the month to spend the voucher.

Still, Hybrid is tempting. I've never spent anywhere near as much at PA as I have this month, so on the plus side for PA, its strategy is working. On the negative side, my budget took a huge hit due to a substantial rent increase this month; I'll have only $150 max left over per month for all living expenses, including music gear, after rent and utility bills. Naughtily took a decent chunk out of my music savings this month for PA stuff, but of course, once said stash is gone, it'll be gone for good.

Given the list you put up I'd go between Phil's Cascade and Sandman Pro in combo with Dent 2. I know you'd be spending $24 on Phil's and spending $3 with the combo of Sandman Pro and Dent 2. I can't advocate for BYOME as I demoed it and found it quite lacking given I already have Sandman Pro, Dent/Indent 2 and Fault. Think of what you would use more.

However I would wait a few more days to see what PA comes up with. Knowing both yours and mine luck we'd buy something now and in a day or two something we really wanted would come up.

OT: I see both of our sides lost in their first week.

My subfilter is still showing. I not long ago downloaded the latest update (Nov 2018 release but I only downloaded recently.) Get in touch with them, I'm sure they'll sort you out.

Personal minor gripe: I wish I could hide ones I don't want showing, like the Schoeps one. I have no use for that or rockrack. A hide feature like the iLok manager would be nice. At least they allow hiding expired trials.

That was an intense poker game for sure. I have all the Bonds on DVD even the couple that are outside the canon (Never Say Never & the original Casino Royale).

Now to see how my strategy works out. There's hope for the 254 this month considering we have Masterdesk today. Part of my strategy is also to actually spend some cash so I can keep getting sizable vouchers. Play the game and be on the watch for the 'tells'.

I think subfilter only shows in your 'registered plugins' page if you downloaded it before. It doesn't show in mine because I never downloaded it. Don't need it as I have something similar from PSP. And I don't like gimmick plugins that pretend to add bass as most sound like crap.

When you say you want to hide things you don't want showing where are you talking about hiding them? The products page? There's a few things there I would never buy but I don't care if I see them there or not. I don't let little things like this bother me.

I don't mind all-in-one 'solutions' but this one is a pass as well. I'll use channels strips no problem but my 2-bus and mastering chains are my hand-picked stuff. I have two plugins that live in my mastering chain and in this order: elysia alpha comp and Dangerous Bax EQ both from PA. If I still need to correct for correlations errors at that point I'll substitute the SPL Passeq for the Bax.
