That's only 16 channels over tdif right?

radar 2's with the tdif digital option have 24ch. 8ch in/out on each of 3 dsub connectors.

a motu 2408 is probably the most cost effective method to get radar 2 tracks into a DAW environment.

i know of folks using the otari/iz UFC-24 to convert tdif into ADAT format. one friend sends ADAT into his RME pci cards to cubase. another uses a m audio 2626 to use his radar 2 as 16ch of a-d into his m-powered protools rig.

I've been using the Radar systems since they came out.
Actually had 5 of them, down to two now. Just ordered another V Super Nyquist.
So I'm selling off the last of the older versions.
As far as back ups, the Exabyte always worked for me!
But I also used real time transfers via Tdif through my Motu 2408 into the computer.
With no problems.
Although I did have problems one time while using the TDIF, but t was due to bad connections to the Motu boxes.
Cables were wired incorrectly.
Other then that, the TDIF works as promised.
I use the Radar's in Digital TDIF mode every time I record or mix from another platform, the Radar is always my convertors in and out.


I've got a Radar II listed in the classifieds with many extras, if you or anyone else is interested.

i use the Radar II with TDIF option into an IZ UFC 24, then into an m audio lighbridge.
i can run pro tools or logic with no problems.
24 I/O in logic and 18 in PT.

I'm almost certain that's a heat problem within Radar.

My understanding is that the Radar fan is designed in a way that makes it most effective when the top is on, so remove the lid at your own risk. I've ended up with my lid off and a second fan on it at all times, plus as cool a temperature in the control room as people can tolerate.

Hi I've just grab an OTARI RADARII to recover (on my DAW) the material of 3 lps recorded 22 years ago ... Everything looks fine (interface, meters ...) ... but no sound comes out from the analog output (DB25)... I've read the manual a thousand times and I can't understand why it's not working ... any clue ? What am I doing wrong ? (my analog DB25 are connected in regular analog 1 to 1 mode) .I'm desesperatly trying to find an answer may be you could have one for me !!!!! Thank you . Laurent

When you're playing back tracks are you seeing the meters move?

Have you looked through the menus to be sure you're not directing the audio to a digital out?

Hello ... My Radar is back to life and work (almost! ) perfectly : we had to re-programme the whole BIOS system in order to re-install all the cards (thx to my studio tech, an old school nerd and early PC user ! ) ... The only pb that still remains is the tape reader for the backup / archives ... the Radar sees the tape but after 30s it stops and sends " CAN'T RESTORE FIL DSET00 .TXT" ... grrr ... Someone has a clue ???? Thank you !!!
