Late response but figured I'd chime in since I didn't see any one directly address this. I've had the Bettermaker Limiter in my mastering chain 2 years now. Its way more than just a limiter (I think the only box out there that really compares to the BM function-wise is the Neve MBP). With the BM you get a VCA limiter, a great clipper (which I use way more than the limiter), a knob controlling the mix/blend between limiter and clipper, M/S processing (width control), 2nd and 3rd order harmonics processors/EQs that you can dial in to specific frequencies, and a host of metering options (that crushes the MBP metering---which is by far the weakest part of the MBP to me as a mastering engineer). Plus, as you know, everything can be controlled via the plugin. It's a pretty powerful box (I actually ended up selling my Overstayer MAS not long after I got the BM and the Hendyamps Pollock). Definitely check it out if you have not already done so.

Yeah I was amazed what one box could do level wise. It doesn't add "mojo" though. I use it with a MAS and a Rockruepel limiter which help.

Agreed. Definitely not a mojo box---but a great finishing tool if you have all your other bases covered. In my case, the Hendyamps Pollock, 747, Massive Passive, Tubecore, and/or Zulu give me the color I need. Just got a Burl B2 ADC as well so curious to see what kind of mojo that adds to my chain.

I was mocked early on in this forum for saying something similar. But I still believe it. Having a mindset that you apply from the lessons you learn studying what you want to sound like allows you to create a vision that a lot of clock watchers not only have no interest in but are simply incapable of achieving.

All the records I grew up listening to, the ones that stayed in rotation were recorded by super well known producers that wanted to eek out every last bit of harmonics, performance, were picky with their gear and found a routine using certain gear for certain applications.

Will I become these men? No. Will I develope a sound of my own that sits next to them. I hope.

All of them! SB, CV, MCS, MAS, KwX, BB. Get them all and build the Mother of all nicermaker rigs. 32 Channels routable and then summed via fatty b. Mix in a bit of this and a bit of that to taste. Mojo to Mangled Distortion heaven and everything in between. Flexible on strips, mixbus or 2bus.

Really interested in your chain, and especially what led you to flip the MAS for the BM Limiter. I've got a Gyraf G10 going into a Manley MP – really happy with where this gets me for breaks and jungle-heavy electronic music. For my next bit of kit in the chain, I'm looking espressly for tape rounding, as well as a clipper for finishing.

So I've been circling around the Burl ADC (tape and clipper vibe) or MAS, and now am reading about the BM Limiter. Wondering if you have a sense how each of those units might fare for what I'm looking for.

Just get better at production, yourself. You can make big and fat sounds ITB easily ... and if the source sounds big and fat from the start then you just leave it alone.

I was running the MAS at the end of my chain for soft limiting, but it was often eating more transients than I wanted so I moved it to the front of the chain and got a BM Limiter for end of chain clipping. However, I ended up preferring driving my chain with the 747 instead of the MAS, so I sold the MAS. However, I later got a Burl B2 ADC and FATSO, so I ended up selling the BM Limiter (since I preferred clipping with the Burl). Been diggin the current chain...but its always a work in progress. Lol.
