Me personally, I feel like my Adam A7x's sound good and revealing for playback, but I really can't achieve a good mix on them. I normally have to go back and change things, could it be because I don't have a sub? When I'm at my cousin's studio, I get a better mix on his Dynaudio BM5a mk2's. I'm starting to think I should make that switch myself, or maybe add a sub to my monitor system? I say add a sub because its normally low end issues. None of our music rooms are treated. Could that mean that the Dynaudio's are better than the A7x?
Hello bud.
I had a pair of A7x's and returned them for a set of Dynaudio BM5a's. I produce EDM and various electronica and to be honest I am more than impressed with the Dynaudio's. They seem the perfect monitor for producing EDM.
They are far more revealing in the mix and you can hear much "deeper" to pick things out. I found the bottom end to be "better" in the Dynaudio's which suits my personal taste. I have to say the BM5a MKII's chuck out a serious amount of bass for their size and you may want to try them before deciding whether or not you need a sub. I have a mate who has the BM6a's (he has a much bigger studio space to fill) he swears by them.
To be honest I was amazed at the difference in quality across the board when comparing the A7x's to the BM5a MK II's. So much I went to a pro audio store to demo two sets which had been burnt in to make sure I didn't have a faulty pair of A7x's.
The build quality of the Dynaudio's is also second to none - amazing engineering. If you get a set you won't look back.
