Maybe it was the lack of knobs? I had the AX60, and it was one of my favorite synths of all time. Before I decided to go into the all-modular paradigm, I had to make sure I could clone the AX60 voice before sold everything else off. Back in the day, we described it as the "Juno killer" because of its screaming resonance and the filter FM. Truly a fine synth.
Yeah, the AX60 was one of my first synths as well, and then was initially despondent when they came out with the
predecessor, (er, edit: excuse me, my apologies in failure of simple English ffs), alleged SUCCESSOR in the AX73 or whatever...
but then I used it... and yup, like as was all the vogue back then, touch membrane buttons and/or alpha wheel/one fader parameter changing...
noped...
You could 'play' the synthesis on the ax60, not so much with the other...
I learned a lot from that ax60, and I miss it.
