Updated Korg volca fm

6 voices and velocity without a firmware hack is excellent but it doesn't appear to respond to MIDI sustain, mod wheel or aftertouch. Hopefully that can be addressed in a firmware update.

Nice. Wonder if it's a sample 2 scenario where they had to make new one because some part wasn't available anymore.

They should update the beats.

Ah, crap. What do I do with my Volca FM 1 now?
I don't know what to make of the velocity slider being an offset now. Seems good for live playing, but not so much for sequencing.

I really hope they also do an update for the FM 1. Which they won't, but still: totally feasible to include at least velocity over midi in the official OS.

Still wish it could hold more patches, though. That's pitifully small in the 21st century, especially with billions of DX7 patches floating around the interwebs.

Interesting, but I'm waiting for a 100% SY77 compatible Volca FM 3.0.

Volca FM 2 is the minimum of what version 1 should have been...
yet they still managed to cripple some of the basics so not to impact sales of their opsix.

It's great to see that the Volca line is still alive and growing.

Only Volca I own is a Volca FM but I wouldn't notice if it just disappeared one day. It seems to have a lot of potential, but personally I just can't gel with the Volca format AND backwards-ass DX-style FM in the same tiny machine; it seems to work against its own immediacy.

And to make you say why? Why! $300 with batteries and built in toasty speaker vs the new opsix vst on a laptop at $200? Smaller than a laptop I guess? Tactility? It’s dawless? I guess but at that cost it doesn’t add up.

Enter Korg. Looks like an excellent update.

It looks like the MSRP is $299 on Sweetwater, but their price (street price) is $170. That seems fair and in line with the other Volcas.

it seems very immediate to me, one of the best things about it. then again I tortured myself with an OPZ for a long time so I guess anything would seem that way

"New volca..." Is confusing, as they are all "new" at some point.

Or OPS7 from Plogue, that sounds pretty much exactly like the OG DX7 and only costs $50

I have the Digitone, and it's a blast. Absolute ripping bass machine. Lots of fun to sequence and tweak because it has a huge sweet spot. But it's sort of in another class compared to the Korg Volca. Even the Model: Cycles is substantially more expensive.

I tried Dexed, and it nearly did my head in. So many sliders and knobs. I felt like I was working the reactor of a nuclear power station.

I love Dexed and my TX-7 and TX-81z and they're here to stay, but this v2 Volca FM is cool.

Way to go, Korg.
