I heard the new Arturia Emulator II V doesn't include the sounds from the original. Is this true?

It does include some. 78 I believe. I read on this very forum that it can load EII disk images and that there are many available all over the net. I havent looked yet, but I hope this is true. The impression that whoever told you probably got is because it doesnt seem to have that many of the simple kind of sounds the EII is known for included in the library.

I think Arturia are trying to make the EII also seem appealing to younger producers and by that I mean say 30 or younger who would maybe see those kind of EII sounds as cheesy or cheap. Most of those people probably never heard of an EII before this. They probably grew up with analog emulations so knew many of those names and the kind of sounds they produced made it into modern music. Simple EII style sounds, not so much. This is really the first mainstream emulation of it.

I'm excited by the EIIV. No it doesn't have alot of the kind of thing the EII is known for, but the tone is good when you do load one of those kind of sounds. I have no doubt people will find a way and make available a large amount of EII sounds for EIIV. This thing just came out, remember. i was a little underhwelmed by the lack of many EII sounds in it. I have an Emax 1 which came with a giant box of floppys. Theres all kinds of things not in the EIIV like a good non-synth brass patch that i have plenty for the Emax. (Emax and EII are the same library) maybe it's a licensing thing. They are recordings remember.

It was a YouTube comment that said it didn't have the classic sounds. (And Arturia sure as hell isn't going to put a notice on their site that says so)
I'm sure there's some copyright issues, because I think Digital Sound Factory owns the EMU/Ensoniq sounds now. I just would have hoped they would have struck some sort of deal with them. Sorting out those sorts of legal issues are part of what I hope to be paying for with the plugin.

I love the EMU sample library. A lot of those classic Proteus sounds are in that library.

Either way I'm excited for it too, otherwise I wouldn't care. But I was hoping that paying for the plugin included the classic sounds. Hopefully someone compiles them.

I like the sound of the machine as well of course, Depeche Mode definitely used it for their own sounds. But I want the classic sounds as well.

Most of the classic sounds are OMI, some Emu/Northstar
OMI is still in business .. Arturia probably too cheap to work out a deal, so definitely 'copyright issues'

the real 'sound' of the EII is these libraries. so I understand the disappointment.

Better to get the Rhythmic Robot library...

I have the ENTIRE library as an HXC file for use in a Floppy Drive emulator in a real EII. I downloaded it from the now defunct EII Yahoo Group a while back in case I ever had use for it which now I do

I don't know how to convert them to a readable file for the Emulator V. In its current state its images of hundreds of floppy discs almost 800mb in size

I can upload to dropbox or whatever of someone is able to convert, or if anyone knows how and can tell me

I know how to get raw .wav files
1. if on Mac, install Crossover (Demo version 14 days, otherwise pay) www.codeweavers.com. If on windows no need for this step
2. install EMXP www.emxp.net
3. in Crossover, or directly in windows run command emxpn.exe
4. in EMXP select 1. Manage EMU files and disks
5. Select 4. Manage EMU EMULATOR-II Files and Disks
6. Select 3. Manage EMULATOR-II HxC Floppy Disk Images (here you need to point it to the folder containing the .hfe files)
7. Press 'A' for All
8. Press 'W' for .wav conversion (there is another directory you set up where it dumps the .wav files)

After that I guess you need to load the .wav files manually in Arturia... if there's some specific place or pattern as to how they are saved, perhaps this part can be scripted...

Note: the sample rate for the EMXP-produced .wav files will be 27778 Hz, because this is the Emulator's default rate. So there may need to be some remapping or conversion if Arturia is expecting something different.

thank you so much!!! that worked great. I just did a test run of one image. was able to convert to wav and load that successfully into Arturia EII V. it even loads loop points

I will convert them all over the next few days, if anyone wants them let me know

How does it still have the loop points? I would have assumed that sort of metadata would be lost in the process

The conversion software asks you if you want to include loop points in the WAV file and embeds all that meta data. The Arturia EII V just reads that meta data

Yea I have the UVI and it seems to have them though not sure if it’s ‘all.’ Anyway a shame if Arturia didn’t at least have the same.

for all those who asked here is the first set of files. The archive I have is pretty large with thousands of samples from hundreds of disks, it was a group collab from many people and it's probably the most complete you will find. It is full of pretty much every type of sound imaginable from Instruments of all types, to drums, to Choirs, to Foley and Sound Effects

As these were originally Floppy Disks from a real EII they are actual samples made on an actual EII. if you are looking for pristine clean audio this aint it lol

Anyway I will do these in batches over the next few days Alphabetically by type as this is how they were organized in the archive. it's a somewhat tedious process converting from Disk Images and keeping everything organized.

Please note I did not create these, do not claim ownership, and would like to thank the unknown people who originally put this together. I am just sharing to benefit others. I also have not tested all of these files

I have finished A-D which includes a HUGE number of cool drum samples including Linn Drums and Simmons as well as many other awesome drum sounds.

New Order used the Emulator too... you might have heard a song of theirs.

I've also converted a smaller local library to .wav, a personal selection of orchestral, acoustic, environmental sounds. 129MB. It came from a larger collection, but these are the sounds I like and continue to use.

Hopefully this helps make the plugin sound closer to the real thing.

Note again, all samples are 27778 Hz. Perhaps the Arturia software recognizes this sample rate and adjusts for this, otherwise they may need to be mapped down 8-9 semitones to keep from sounding too bright. To check just audition the sample in iTunes or Audacity.

From what I can tell the Arturia Software loads and adjusts to the 27778 sample rate just fine
